Pics from the Kentucky Derby

My wife works for a company that owns a bunch of thoroughbred race horses. (the winner of the Kentucky Derby's mother is one of their horses)

Anyways they are an investment firm, where clients put a minimum of 1 million and invest in the horse.

Last weekend they flew all of the employees and their spouces to Kentucky along with 300 clients and potential clients.

The company reserved 4 suites on the final turn on the infield side of the track. Here are some pics. Enjoy!

The wife and I

That looks like a lot of fun. I have never been to a horse race.

Wow, pretty cool!

When I lived in CT, we went to the Belmont Stakes. That was a good time. The first time I go to a track, I win over $200 on a $6 bet!

That looks real exciting, it does sound you had a lot of fun. The one thing I wanna do though is go to a baseball game. I've never been to one, I just dont have the time

I wish I had won some money, all of the horses I bet on were the leader of the race until the last 1/4 of the track, then they fell way back!

I really don't have much interest in horse racing, but when the opportunity came up for me to go for free, I had to go. Its definately an experience! Has anyone had a mint julep, I guess it is a traditional derby drink. YUK, it was nasty, tasted like scope mouthwash!!

Ewww....I had a mint julep once in New Orleans. Actually it was only about 1/8 of a mint julep, I ended up getting something else b/c I thought it was gross. I'd always wanted to try one though.

It was funny how we ended up winning that day at Belmont. I was in line with my roommate, and my roomie had just decided to ask some random guy who he liked in the upcoming race.

Well this guy proceeds to tell us exactly how to bet. There was a wierd name for the bet, but basically the premise was you pick 3 horses. You have to pick the winner, and then your 2 and 3 picks can come in either order, just as long as one of them finishes 2nd and the other finishes 3rd.

What do you know, the guy NAILS it. We bought him a few beers afterwards. He looked sorta shady. Almost like he had to know what was going down.

I've only been to the track one time since, and still haven't won any more!

I think its called a "box" bet. My only bets were for a "show" that is where you bet on one horse to place. Last year a co-worker went to the derby and won a "box" bet, she got $3,000 on a $2 bet!

Sorry, I meant that getting out of churchill downs after the race was hell.

Do you like the mint julep? Is the place that bottles it also bottle mouthwash?

I don't like it heh. The stuff is nasty, smells bad after a day of it, and its really sticky. If I remember right its just water, sugar, mint flavoring, and green number something.
