PHONE CALLS w/ BEEPS

All hours of the day, and now at night our home phone rings and the only thing that is heard is a "beep" every 2-3 seconds...which continues until you hang up.

Any ideas??? Is this happening to anyone else?

We usually never answer it seeing that we only use our cell phones. No one has this phone number (we only use it for our home alarm system connection). Its pissing me off.

This happened to us last year too. It was some company's computer system dialing into a number (we found this out later on), but the dolt who entered the number put ours in by mistake. This would happen in the wee hours of the morning.

Luckily, our Caller ID picked up the number and time of the call and we called it, but it was a non-answering line. Then we resolved it by calling the phone company and they took care of the problem. I dont know what they did, but we havent rec'd a call since.

it's someone trying to fax someone. happens alot with spam advertising.

you can block the number using * something, call your phone carrier.

we usually get a couple a day because our fax is so close to our office number.

if i call someone and accidently get the wrong number and the person who answers is rude i'll say i'm sorry then dial my fax to there number and hit continual redial.

bingo its a fax machine, that keeps redialing........happens to us alot here at work.

I wish I could pull off a cartoon scene and yank their machine through my phone lines ! I am calling the phone company today. What a PITA ! Thanks for the info.

next time it happens, *69 and get the phone #, then use the net to do a reverse lookup on the net, or like you said call the phone co. with the number and get the registered name and have them remove your number. If you look in the white pages in the front there are the "*" shortcuts on how to block numbers also.

Thanks !!! I would have thought they would have got the hint that a fax wasnt going thru for the past 2 MONTHS. Geeezzzz !

Unless it is one of those direct marketing advertisers that constantly sends faxes out. They don't care if it goes thru, it just goes on to the next number. We get them all the time at work. I thought they are illegal but they keep comming in. Good luck.

if its not a fax machine, then i have heard that telemarketing companies set up autodialers that call and do nothing so they can track when someone is home and when they will pick up.

not sure if its true or not, just throwing it out there.

I heard that once too.... Its just unbelievable. Our number is unlisted too. I guess that doesnt matter anymore.
