Pet Massacres in Puerto Rico worse than originally suspected

TRUJILLO ALTO, Puerto Rico (AP) - Back roads, gorges and garbage dumps on this tropical island are littered with the decaying carcasses of dogs and cats. An Associated Press investigation reveals why: possibly thousands of unwanted animals have been tossed off bridges, buried alive and otherwise inhumanely disposed of by taxpayer-financed animal control programs.

Witnesses who spoke with the AP said that, despite pledges to deliver adoptable strays to shelters and humanely euthanize the rest, the island's leading private animal control companies generally did neither.

The AP probe, which included visits to two sites where animals were slaughtered, found the inhumane killings were far more extensive than that one incident. The AP saw and was told about a scale and brutality far beyond even what animal welfare activists suspected, stretching over the last eight years.

Sometimes people say things like "I would have killed them" when they really probably would not have. Being an animal lover if I was faced with this situation I don't know how I would react. If I actually saw someone doing these things and could get my hands on them I think I may just hurt them very badly, I would probably regret it, but I don't think consequences would be on my mind. The two parts that really got me are the dog that ended up poking its head out of the bag before it died, I would hate to find that. Also how about the sick dog that mangaged to limp home, so the owner calls the company and tells them to come get the dog and do the job right, in my opinion that person is just as sick as the rest of them.

I'm not saying its good or bad, but different cultures view animals differently. Especially when it comes to stray or unwanted dogs and cats.

OMG, that makes me furious!!! It's true that different cultures have different view, but damn. Can we all at least respect a life? I mean, domesticated animals have been by our side for centuries and humans still are so ruthless. Did friggin Michael Vick move to Puerto Rico?

I just got back from Mexico.

Lots of Stray dogs, I did not see 1 cat.
