PC Magazines, ultimate home entertainment setup

Since I built my new PC awhile back, I have been buying PC mags lately.
My two favorite are PC Gamer & Maximum PC.

Bought the two new ones today of each.
In the November issue of Maximum PC they have a great article on the new home entertainment setups that will replace current home entertainment systems.

They show you how to setup a PC to record TV shows just like a TiVO does, and to play games, all from the comfort of your living room.
They used a 32" plasma screen in the article.
It looks like a great setup too, and no need to even use a dedicated DVD player like most of us have now for our TV sets.

In fact my new PC I have can do the same thing as the article, I would just need to add a TV tuner card to it, and of course add a plasma screen.
Gosh those things alone are very expensive, and also I'd have to add a good 5.1 surround sound speaker setup to replace my current 2.1 I use with my PC now.

Has anyone designed a system like this yet for home entertainment?
Instead of buying a separate home entertainment receiver, powered subwoofer and satellites, you could do it all with your current PC setup if it's up to snuff.

I'd be temped to do this, but not with the price of the plasma monitors right now, they are simply to much money.

Anyways, this Maximum PC magazine rocks for any of you who have not ever read one yet.
Good tech section too.

When I get my new desktop I'll be adding a VIVO (video in/video out) card. I've always had my eyes on the capture cards that hook up via USB/1394, but they all have poor playback, or cost several hundred dollars.

I've got the Creative Inspire 5.1 5300 series

And I've got a SoundBlaster Extigy , which is a USB version of the SoundBlaster Audigy 5.1 soundcard.

Works really well with my laptop. Although it isn't too easy to lug around . And the soundcard can be run on it's own. It's got optical inputs and analog inputs. So I use the USB for my computer, the spdif input for my DVD player, and the optical for my Xbox. My soundcard IS my receiver. And the sound is amazing too! I've got enough sound in my room to rattle all the pictures in the adjacent rooms.

I've got the Extigy too, with the same speakers, and I use it for all the same reasons. It's an awesome piece of equipment, isnt it? A little hard to set up sometimes but good nontheless.

I wouldn't say it's hard to setup.... but I would say I've got too many wires!!! It's like a jungle back there! The sound is amazing isn't it? You've got to crank up the Matrix and listen to the bullets flying around to really get the feel of it.
