Pathfinder Armada

I know.... I know....I love my 4Runner and won't ever get rid of it! I've been driving a ton of cars for my wife including the Lexus RX330, GX470, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, 4Runner, Pilot, MDX..so far my favorite has been the Sequoia and the GX but I'm super tall so I don't fit in the 4Runner(I know it is going to be her car but it will also be the road trip vehicle).

So the Armada is pretty sweet as far as specs go...300+ hp, 375 lb-torque, stability, low, full curtain air bags, aluminum block, 5 speed tran, When you check consumer reports reliability on past nissans they check out well. And it is supposed to start at 28K.

My wife used to drive a suburban--she's a good driver!--I know some of you are wondering about the bigggg truck

Any opinions?

That Nissan is one ugly vehicle!

Looks like some sort of morphing happening. The dash looks ok but the outside......they must of come up with that design late on a Friday at the start of a long holiday weekend.

Frosty,

How tall are you? I'm 6'4" and fit fine in mine. The only time my head comes close to hitting the top is in weekend mode when I sport the hawk, then I just slide the shade back.

*cough*4Runner*cough*

It looks like Nissan has copied the 4Runner AGAIN.
There is a 99 Pathfinder that parks close to the building I work in and I swear the back looks like a 4Runner.

By the way, I'm not bashing the Pathfinder Armada. I actually like the way it looks. I think it looks better than the 4th gen 4Runner. And 300hp/375ft.lbs for under $30K. They could teach Toyota a thing or two. That makes two Nissan vehicles I would consider if I let go of my 4Runner (not likely). The first would be an Xterra.

Hi Serge,

I'm 6'4'' too but my torso is tall--I have to buy XL-T shirts! I drove the runner with a sunroof and my head is short of the glass by a finger--and I have a shaved head! I really like the new 4Runner with the V8 but its looking like the Sequoia or the Armada. I have to agree with HaveBlue Nissan took copied the Sequoia and made it better--it also looks much better in silver!

What the hell happened to that thing?
Looks way too busy, all kinds of lines and angles that don't go anywhere.

number one reason i wouldnt buy it is the french own it, if you dont mind that

I like the interior but the exterior their is something wrong. its like they took an extanded cab pickup and jammed the rear of an escalade on it and got lazy with joining the two together. the lines of the vehicle dont work well. thats my opinion.

300+ horsepower is really nice though

dont like that solid front chrome center bumper either

oh supposably if you get a 4runner without the sunroof you get 2 inches extra head room. I dont know if thats enough for you liking. try and find a 4runner without one and sit in it. i would go with the sequioa or the gx if not

Recline the seat man, Im tall and I recline, put wrist on top of steering wheel and recline til at full lenght.

The GX has a ton more head room,

I had my seat in the 3rd gen lowered by a welder--I fit real nice now--but my Wife is short so if we lowered hers--she would have a hard time seeing--the GX is nice but its hard to pay soooo much more when your just getting a glorified 4Runner...I'm hoping Toyota changes the Sequoia a bit for 04--from what I have read its supposed to get a horsepower bump and a Navigation...

Looks like someone rear ended that truck! I mean why in the world the roof would have such an angle? And who came up with an idea of having smooth edges on the front bumper and angles in the rear? Or maybe the front was designed by Nissan and rear by Pontiac Aztec engineers?

I just don't like the looks of this Pathfinder at all, very akward design!

two words: SOCCER MOM

i hate the new trend towards suvs, they are all designed for hauling around 10 people, not for actually what they were originally for: dependable on and offroad use. guess most people nowadays think the "sport" means soccer :p

and whats with it being impossible to find a manual tranny in trucks/suvs in the US anymore? it used to be the other way around, you had to look for autos...

Must be the French influence since they own Nissan.

If looks are any indication of future reliability issues then I say stay away. The front roofline looks like a hose that has bubbled and is about to burst. YUK!! Go with the Sequoia.

Kinda silly to comment on the looks. Totally subjective. If Frosty's wife likes how it looks, that's all that matters in this case.
What I do want to know is, why such huge vehicle? Gas mileage is pathetic. Nothing handles worse (very heavy and high center of gravity). Regardless of horse power, these things are slooooow.
Also, what's the deal with not buying something because it's French owned? Loads of products are French owned, do you go out of your way to avoid buying any of them? If you stopped buying things which were produced by countries that pissed in our soup at least once, you'd have nothing to buy! Hell, you drive a Japanese car! Japan BOMBED us in WWII !!
OK.. obviously I'm in bad mood today.. must be 4 weeks of non-stop rain here on East Coast

Frosty,

Have you tried sitting in a limited and lowering the seat? Tilting the bottom back helped me.

i owned a nissan once, heres what i liked: plenty of power and very reliable, great interior
heres what sucked: terrible resale value (the scare of them going out of business didnt help either) and the exterior styling was ugly. i think those two things might be related. the other complaint i had is that there was no light around the ignition on a car with leather, climate control and heads up display.
my .02, get a toy/lex and in 10 years itll still look good and be worth some money.

I saw a prototype at the Portland Auto Show this year. Huge is right. They won't admit to what it weighs yet, but it must be approaching 6,000 lbs.

Soccer Mom/Security Mom is the target market. This thing has limited off-road use. Look at the specs: Part-time transfer case, no frame, independent rear suspension, aluminum block, and in person one of the ugliest designs in some time. Makes my 4th Gen look svelte. And, let's face it, their "starts at" price estimate will be for a base 4X2.

\rant I'm not dropping my resentment of "Old Europe" and Canadian politicians just yet. Their actions intentionally hurt Americans and our allies in Gulf War II. Actions have consequences, and until Chirac, Schroeder, and Chretien are replaced by reasonable statesmen, I can live happily by spending my cash elsewhere. I already canceled a week-long vacation to Vancouver BC planned for this Summer. I'm not alone, the US leisure travel dollar is an enormous source of revenue to those weasels. It's no wonder they were kissing up to President Bush on his EU tour this past week. The point of the 'Runner being Japan-produced, WWII, etc., is valid. Look how long it took VW, Toyota and Datsun to overcome the same resistance, about a generation. Paybacks are a biotch. /rant

/rant hey BT17R, so you're saying that any country who doesn't agree with the U.S. is wrong or is lead improperly (please define 'reasonable statesman' ) , and as i recall the Canadian economy is doing better than the American, even with SARS and the beef industry scare. You are doing yourself a disservice by cancelling your trip because of your attitude. And i'm sure me and the other "weasels" (ooohh that is intelligent) are better off with people like yourself staying right where you are. I seem to recall the reason for the war was "weapons of mass destruction" right where he still hiding these, with all that concrete evidence i'm sure Bush feels vindicated. Don't get me wrong i know the u.n. dropped the ball on the saddam thing and i think it's great a tyrant like him is no longer ruining so many lives but Canada has it's own agenda and just because we didn't jump on your country's bandwagon doesn't mean anything (how much better off is britain?). Also where do you see the "intention " of those actions to hurt the U.S. troops? c'mon man be specific if you're gonna talk , back it up. yours truly, A. Weasel.

For answers to your specific questions, look here.

Are you a politician? Re-read my post to see who I think the weasels are. Also, my attitude is just fine and is consistent with 70% of other Americans attitudes. It wasn't the reason for changing my vacation destination. It was the attitude of the weasels that did.

I know what I'm missing by skipping Canada this year. It was a former tradition for years. No more. Apparently you think Canada is an economic powerhouse compared to the US. That's laughable, but if so then I'd rather help my country ease out of recession if Canada doesn't need the help.

BTW, I'm a vet, too. Canada was an ally once, and can be again. But it won't happen with Chretien at the helm, setting the tone for Canada while he's lobbying for the head job at the UN.
