new cars

What do all of you think about the "new" designs for some of the 04/05 cars?

specifically I'm talking about the redesigned mustangs and thunderbirds, as well as the newly re-introduced GTO's...

Personally I think that they are kind of cool, but I would rather see things evolve fowards than go retro.

Did I miss any other cars that fit this trend?

i agree with you on the mustang. it looks alright, but i'd rather see a progressive design than retro.

the new f-150 looks pretty good, the back end could be better tho.

i'm looking forward to seeing the new tacoma design.

The new tacoma almost looks like a "mini" tundra..

On the new car design, I think the new mustang looks ugly...

Maybe it's because I really don't like the "retro" look...

I don't believe in auto designers making bank on someone elses breakthrough design. Therefore I feel these retro cars are a disgrace. The mustang's front end looks pretty sweet to me, but I think it is wrong to go back on old design.

The ford GT however, is more of a progression. The GT40 was a great performance car, and they are continuing it, and while it shares many of the same lines, it is different looking, and has a host of technology under the hood to boot.

The best "retro" car was the car that started it all. The Prowler. That is one sexy car (except the plastic bumpers). Plymouth had an awesome idea with that car. If only it had more power to back up the look.

As far as car manufacturers who are getting it right... I think the ford f-150 and ranger look awesome. They are square, but not too angular and disgusting. Cadillac is also doing well in the age of square cars, keeping them still very nice looking. However inifiniti gets my vote for one of the best looking cars. I can't even remember the name of the car, but its a 2/4 door sedan, and its body lines are so incredibly smooth.

The honda element, pontiac aztec, chevy avalanche, and subaru baja all get my vote for the "What the hell were they smoking?" award.

I've one of these '05's on order now. I spec'd the 5M/T in Black Cherry Pearl with the TRD supercharger that will produce 200hp and 210 ft./lbs. Not exactly a GTO, but at 2,900 lbs. has a respectable power-to-weight ratio, brakes to back it up, with a suspension and 17" wheels with Z rated tires that sound promising. I hope so, it'll be running in SCCA STS class competition WITH TOYOTA SPONSORSHIP, the first Scion tC to race in the U.S. Arrives June 23rd, not like I'm counting or anything.

I agree with you but besides the Aztec all the rest are being bought up so I'm sure the quirky/different designs will continue.

As far as the retro stylings I wish they would die down and Ford is the worst.
It seems with the Mustang all they can do is cull the past with "Limited" editions of the Bullitt and Mach 1 editions just to sell cars by giving the image of "eclusivity".
