NEED HELP! Vw sucks!

I posted this on VWvortex but I'm posting here too.....

Quote:
I've been informed that the spider gears are bad on my 02 golf auto, only 42k on the odo.
We're ONE MONTH past warranty for the powertrain. How likely is it VW will replace it under warranty?

I can't cough up $3800 for a tranny replacement in this POS, especially since it's only worth about 8k with a GOOD transmission.

!!!!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!!

Well, VW diagnosed the car, and have advised me that it does in fact need a new transmission.
With just over 42,200 miles on the odo. One month outside of warranty.

And the WILL NOT cover it.

So what the heck am I supposed to do with an 02 golf with a bad transmission? The car is only worth $8 in good shape........

I can't afford to dump $4,000 into a transmission replacement for a car that is barely worth that without a transmission at all!!

HELP PLEASE! ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT!

I've already tried the corporate route. I got a supervisor in customer relations and was told there was nobody higher I could speak with that could give me a different answer. And I was told there were no other phone numbers I could call to get assistance. The only information I was given was VW corporate offices address and fax number, and the names of the president and VP.

I've submitted all this to www.consumerist.com I'm going to hold off and see what they say. I'm a little too pissed off right now to write a letter to the corporate offices, and I feel that unless I get a specific name of someone I can contact there, I'll just get some generic piece of crap worthless letter in response.

Who honestly would buy a car if they knew the transmission would fail after 42k miles?

The golf was purchased because it was supposed to be reliable, economical, and it was inexpensive. So here I sit now with a 2002 golf, only 42k on the odo, and a bad transmission. So the car is essentially WORTHLESS......

I'm on a losing streak with cars lately. My z=totalled. Now this. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

How much to get a used tranny put in at an aftermarket shop? - Then dump the car.

Contact you state's attorney general, the consumer devision. They should be able to help you. Be prepaired to show proof of all schedual service. Recipts for filters, service tickets, and all according to owner's service requirements.

The AG should be able to help you get this resolved. You may still have to pay some, but I still think that they will step up to the plate once you get the AG's involvemenmt. Also make sure you have keep track of every little thing that this car has done. Problems, beside this one, like A/C work, or any other problems. Also go to a fourm and find out if anyone else is having the same issues. There is strength in numbers. TJ

If the car's out of warranty, are you truly expecting the someone to just give ya a tranny and install it for free?

Granted, VW quality ain't much, but with the 03' Z totalled and just 42k on the clock of this one...No offense, maybe the problem is behind the steering wheel

Raise hell with them on the good will warranty stuff... if they politely decline and you say OK, then they're happy.. They've already said no once, so raising a little hell can't hurt.

All im gonna say is after working at a dealer with Audi's (VW's), Porsche's and Benz's, German cars now, are horrible. They all have huge problems like the trans going out at 42k miles. I would do whatever I could to get rid of it and go from there. Before buying a new car look at the consumer reports and decide on what to buy from there.

This car isn't a hotrod. WHEN I drove it, I drove it normal. 99% of the time, the woman drove it. She drives like my grandmother.

Spider gears aren't a wear item. The transmission shifts crisply, etc. It's a manufacturer defect.

The irony in this is, this car is the ONLY one we've owned in the past 5 years (aside from the new accord) that has not been modded at all. And what do you know? THIS ONE BREAKS???

VW's trans in the MkIV chassis are notorious for this kinda stuff. I wish I still knew who to contact in VWoA to get this squared for you.

Syncros in the current trans are weak at best, and often times would grind intermittantly from the 1st into 2nd, and 2nd into 3rd.

There are TSB's out there on them, but as everyone said here, raise a big stink. Its the only way to get things done with VW.
