Need help creating an animated GIF w/ photoshop

ok I need to do a really simple animated Gif, I have to make it in photoshop.

I can't seem to get different pictures in different frames. Every time I try to open a new pic for a different frame, it changes the animation to just that new pic. any help?

I don't think you can do it with photoshop... I believe you have to do it with ImageReady. ImageReady comes with photoshop. You'll have to use the animation palete and change the visibility of the layers to create the animation.

ImageReady help is pretty decent for this.

I have a free program from MS that I make animated GIFs with.
It's very simple, you just drag & drop your pics from a folder into it, and it creates a new frame for each pic.

You can then set the speed of the animation and how many times you want it to loop or run forever.

1 mb

I'll leave it up for a day or so...

This use to be on MS's site as a free download, but I have not been able to find it there anymore.
The last time I got it was from a Google search a few years back.

I've never known a way to do it in PhotoShop. I've always used an _OLD_ app called GIF Construction Set from Alchemy Mindworks. They live here:

http://www.mindworkshop.com/

And the app is here:

The copy I have is shareware from 1995, I have no idea what they have these days. Looking at the present offering, it's grown up a LOT from what I have.

I've done a bit more reading now on Image Ready, and I understand Adobe's approach (not that I agree with it! ). The layering thing that Adobe loves works well for general image paste-up, but I think it falls apart for animation when you already have your base images. You may have a better time using GIF Construction Set.

fwiw, I found some more tutorials:
http://www.thewebmachine.com/
http://www.stickysauce.com/tutorials...rialsindex.htm
http://www.tiemdesign.com/HowTo/2003...Ad/default.asp
http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/imagereadyani/

There's tons more, hit google with "image ready tutorial" or "imageready tutorial" and you'll get a good number of hits.
