Heh, I used to work at a computer store so just imagine what I went through working on all the HPs.
If it were me and I wasn't going to build my own computers for the rest of my life I would buy a Voodoo PC because they have always gotten good reviews on the pc magazines and because the just look friken cool. Working at a computer store you can tell how good a manufacture is by how many of their pcs you repair a day. Compaq and HP is something I seen regularly. I rarely seen a Micron or Dell built computer and most of the time when I did see them it was for upgrades after they went out of warantee. If your going to go from a mom & pop's online store check them out by going to Reseller ratings and make sure they have a high rating. I order all my stuff from Newegg.com I just checked them and they have a 9.48 and have never did me wrong even on an rma. If your looking for a good deal I would check out techbargains.com I think I seen something on there for a deal on a dell for under 500$. As for the windows xp, I haven't had not one problem with it and I'm actually surprised by that. It has great driver support and its very stable. As of right now I'm on my 6th day up with no problems. Hope this helps.

I really like Gateway computers. If you have a store near you, visit it! They will really work with you and get what you want. If you want to add more memory, they will add it. If you want to add a printer, they will add it. They can do lots of things there. Check it out. They provide great service and products! Goodluck! :fireman:

I'm not too hardcore tech....but I was able to build my computer no problem....I built a very nice/fast computer for $700. I will never go back to buying my systems.....I got most of my stuff off of newegg.....I think that it's a great experience....building your own system....you can find great sites w/ writeups that will instruct you on what to buy and how to install it....
I think the money you save....$800 could be spent on other "goodies"..... I'm running AMD 1800 mHz....512 DDR Ram....and luv it.....I've got XP too.....I think it's stable....but it overwrote my driver's fro Easy CD Burner 4.0.....and requires me to use media player to do my burning now.....so that's my only complaint..... As far as factory warranties.....w/ the money you save.....you can easily replace/upgrade parts if they ever go bad.... Just my opinion......
