Nearly lost it at school today

I nearly became unglued while I was taking a math test (Statistics). For the first time in my college career I nearly wadded the test up and walked out.

I did finish the test, I think I did ok

I have seven more weeks to go and I don't know if I can hold on. I'm sitting at a B in the class.

Should I take up drinking?

I used to puke, like clock work, exactly 15 minutes before every physics exam I took in college. I got there 20 minutes early, laid out the pencils and calculator, excused myself to puke, came back and did all right.

Organic Chem was worse. I would sweat and shake so bad during those tests that I some times couldn't write answers down. Saw sports psychologists, studied all the time, it made my crazy.

My advice, learn everything twice, ace the tests and move on.

Wow, so I am not the only one to get so anxious before tests that I feel light headed!?

Last week I was taking my Diff. Equations test, I was going through all the questions perfect, I had studied well. Then I see this question, I have no idea how to do. I almost barfed. It was like all this momentum, and then hitting a wall ... all mentally of course.

School is weird. Or maybe its just me.

I don't have that problem....I don't know how to do the stuff in the first place, so I'm rarely worried about it.

I actually did what you didn't during a calc exam. I ran into some stuff on the exam that the professor swore up and down would not be on there (so I didn't study for it). I went back thru the exam and somewhat calculated my grade so far and realized that I might actually fail b/c of this one set of problems. So I started to panic and went into meltdown mode and threw my calculator up against the wall. Talk about an attention getter. It definitely broke the silence in the room. Then I was quickly escorted out.

I took calc twice and still suck at it.

Just hang in there b/c it really sucks having to take classes over again. Do you know how many doctors out there made c's and d's in med school? All of them.

Yeah for me the first year or so was really rough, getting adjusted to the new "on your own" college environment. I had my fair share of anxiety-filled tests.

It's all about knowing your stuff inside and out, twice. By my senior year, I would always study with friends and especially for finals we would literally do 5-10 problems from each section in the book. It really helped a lot, and I tended to get a lot better grades my senior years (there were two of them lol) than in the years prior.

Of course, I hated all my classes until junior/senior year anyway... gen-ed's are the worst

I find the title of your thread very amusing considering your user name starts with "Paxil".

Haha, you should see me now with tests. I just about don't care. I'm not going to let myself fail, but I'm done on may 12th, have a great job, and I'm just tired of the stress that tests bring.

Study for it, and you'll know it or you won't know it. Life is WAYYYYY to short to be a stress ball.

Sorry if that doesn't help.

I never had those problems in college.
I think it was due to the large amounts of booze I drank.

This coming from the guy who has a hole. But his right just study and hope they let you use a formula sheet. If you have B right now. I suspect your being to hard and yourself. Good luck and keep up the good work.

I say if your over 21 and don't have alcoholic tendency's, I would have a beer or 2 when I got home.

I to am nervous before the tests, but once I am taking them The anexity leaves.

Recently in my accounting class, I would get pretty nervous before a test, but after a small prayer, I would end up Aceing the test. My final was pretty rough. I like to be sure of my answers before I hand in the test, so I'm usually the last person out of class on a test day. On the final I pulled a solid B for the test, and an A for the course. I was good with that.

Yes, there is the good ol' "oly's hole"

I used to get nervous as hell for tests, they would bother me quite a bit. However, I've come to the realization that a test isn't just about what you know about the material, but how you can manage your time and stay cool under pressure.

I'll tell you right now that you think tests make you nervous, just WAIT till you get to the real world of working and you have boss/bosses breathing down your back for things that got messed up or things that need to get done.

Not to scare you by any means, but as I said, study for a test, then walk in telling yourself,

"At this point, I'm going to know it or I'm not going to know it, and there's nothing I can do about it."

I HAD a Micro Bio Class this semester that is REQUIRED for my BSN and 6 quizes were worth 70% of your grade. Well, the first 2 quizes I took I revcieved a 55% and 60%. I went to talked to the teacher to try to get some advice and she basically told me that if I can not do this class I can not stand on my own 2 feet in the nursing field.

I am retaking it this Summer and it that does not work I have to take it again in the Fall, then I HAVE to have it finished in Winter 2008 and if I do not, then I am kicked out of my program that I fought hard to get into and have waited 16 months to start because that is how long the wait it, 1 full year to start the BSN Program as they only accept so 75 Students per Semsester.

Bottom line, I felt like giving up and still have my doubts now that I even belong doing what I want to do because of 1 class and 1 teacher, but I need to change my outlook and thining on it or otherwise it will hamper me the rest of my life in other ways also.

Take it as you want...

Best of luck.

Btw, I took a Philisophy Class and a Computer Class to AVOID a Stats Class for my degree.
