My turbo GSR vs. 99 turbo (that's right turbo) M3

I haven't raced in a really long time thanks to my Integra being in the shop for 3 months after I blew it (while handing an MKIV tt Supra his ass on a highway run) So I'm anxious to post my first worthy kill since then

My friend has a 95 GSX with a 6 bolt motor running a 20g turbo (18 psi on pump gas) with all the goodies that a DSM can have. So we decided to go out "hunting" with 2 turbo cars on a Saturday night.

While cruising on a 2 lane road we decide to see how our cars would do against each other. Keep in mind I just got done breaking my car in, got it tuned running 11 psi.

1st race. 40 miles per hour roll, we both get the same reaction time from 2nd gear, and we're pretty much even through 2nd gear (I was spinning mostly through 2nd) with the exception of me putting about a bumper on him, in 3rd (favorite gear for turbo Honda's) I put at most 1 car length on him... I was happy with that.

Later we come to a light and my friend wants revenge so he's telling me to go on green, what the hell right? We both roll of the line and punch it in through 1st gear, he had about 1 car on me while I'm spinning my ass of trying to get traction (Tial wastegate screaming!) by the end of 3rd I managed to put about half a car on him before letting of. Damn I'm happy (and cocky) at this point. I just beat an heavily modded GSX from a 1st gear roll!

So we keep cruising (almost no traffic) when we notice a very clean, good looking M3 pulling out of a store. We all get a grin on our face...

The M3 caught up to us and started to pace the GSX (they were both behind me) and they went at it from about 40mph to 65mph. While passing me I heard a BOV from the M3 (my friend looked at me and said "did I just hear what I think I heard?) It looked even! So this M3 is far from stock...

The guy in the M3 pulled into a carwash, and so did we. We ended up talking for a good 45 minutes all while he showed us everything on his car. It was a bolt on 20g turbo, with a fogger NX kit on it, with a FMIC. Keep in mind this thing was the best looking M3 I've ever seen. Silver, lowered with deep dish gunmetal rims with a polished lip, and a carbon fiber hood. And TV's in the headrest's for the bling factor He said he dynoed at 335whp on 8psi on spray.

The guy was really cool and was in his early 20's. So we have an Integra, a GSX, and an M3 sitting next to each other all with FMIC's. So we asked him if he wanted to take a pass with my car for s and giggles. He said sure.

So first we go from a 40mph roll, get the same reaction time and we're of... The result was him being almost 2 cars behind by the end of 3rd when we let of (90mph came pretty fast) He pulled up again and said good race, but let's do it from a stop. I said ok, but at the same time I'm thinking to myself "I'm going to get my ass handed to me from a stop. He's RWD with 275/35/18" tires, and I'm on 205/40/17's" Oh well, let's do it.

We line up at a light. Green! Same reaction time, he gets me out of the hole by a car, I start to finally somewhat hook in 2nd gear and start to regain the car length he's winning by, and pull past him in 3rd finally letting of at about 85mph.

He gives me the thumbs up and we split. My friends and I couldn't belive that I just beat a turbo M3, we've never even seen one in person before.

Sorry for the long story, and thanks for reading. Any comments are welcome

Damn dude... wheres the pics??

Ive got to get some pics of a buddy of mine's engine for you... sounds a lot like yours, but hes got a stripped out hatch Good kills though!! Thats ridiculous... could he not drive? He has almost 80whp on you and you beat him? Not sounding skeptical its not just about hp, but 80hp is a lot.

80whp is a big difference I know, but I'm not sure if he was spraying his 30 shot into the intercooler. And his car weighs A LOT more then mine. Anyone know the exact weight of 99 M3? (plus the extra weight of his 18's, turbo kit, ect...)

Mine only weights 2650lbs plus driver (my friend rode in the GSX during the race.

I'm really happy now

I've been to every track in MD with the exception of Ceasil. And if case you didn't know, they are closed during winter.

And I forgot to add this was about 2:00am with not a soul in sight most of the night.

Clearly you're not into fast cars, which is fine.

Sorry, I stopped reading after this...
Sounds vaguely familiar. Anyone else recall a thread that kind of started like this?

What other mods have you done to the GSR? I'm looking at buying a MKIII Turbo Supra and rebuilding the motor with some mods so I'm curious what others are doing to their turbo cars...

An M3 pushing 8psi and NX should be putting out way more than 335hp. And yes people are on the road at 2:00 a.m. That is usually about the time I come home from work. Being in to fast cars, and endangering other people are two totally different things.

Sounds like a friend of mine w/ a VR6 GTI, early model, all done up. He beat a Cobra on the highway on route to blowing up his engine at 150mph. He was bragging and my only response was, who's car got them home that night, because as far as I'm concerned they are the ones that won the race.

Did the guy in the M3 forget how to drive? Sounds like you have a nice car, though...255whp can get a little Integra movin'!

Actually, it was posted here on YT a while back. Now, when I search the web, the only place I can find it is on those sites that require membership. I do have it on my home computer, but the file is pretty big so I am not sure if I could email it to you successfully.

Try googling "cobra vs. supra" and you will see a bunch of threads on various boards about it. I just can't find an active link. Sorry!

Go to supraforums.com you will find more kills than any other website! Nothing can hang with the supra. They are in the 1,500+hp range now. Maybe a konesseg or however you spell it, but nothing on the road here. Lambos, ferraris... can't touch them with the right modifications.

I was just pointing out the fact that a stock heavy ass sports sedan can still beat a modded one. Yeah, performance comes at a price, but we were talking about peformance #s not price.

I did a bit of illegal street racing but it was usually for money so that weeds out the poseurs and it was organized and moved out to a rural area and of course done at night so even if it was irresponsible we were taking precautions.

My best kill in my '93 GSX on the street was a '67 Falcon with a beefed up 351 with dual Hollies sticking out the hood and the guy said he wouldn't even start it for less than $50 on the line so my friend intervenes and up the ante to $300 and I'm freakin' out thinking he was crazy. He knew the guy had too much power for his street tires and with my AWD he knew I'd win plus the guy had zero respect for any import and I showed him my tails twice in case he thought it was a fluke and my friend and I went home each $150 richer.

My best at the track was when I took an '03 Viper GTS by a whopping 1 tenth of a second and again thanks to AWD.

Poopras are overrated Almost all of those high, high HP Supras are little more than highway assassins, dyno queens, and HP bragging rights. No traction down "low" (as in under 150 miles per hour lol exaggeration ). I like Supras, but I'd rather have something that has more usable power and acceleration. And dude, I don't think even Supras respond as well to mods for the same cost as the 03-04 Cobras. 450+ whp for ~1000$?? What year Cobra, Christian? From a roll or a dig?

Austin, I have that vid, too. The Fuelsluts one, or something like that? Those were pretty darn close races. Even as a BMW fan, I'll say the E55 AMG's are quite the machines. Very fast.

I dunno, personally, I'd rather have something with an LS1-6, EJ25, or 4G63... I guess if I wanted to say I had Top Fuel level HP, I'd go for the 2JZ...

I think my favorite vid I have is either some of Jun's Supra, or of a supercharged Viper vs. a single-turbo LS1 Trans Am.

My understanding is that the Cobra was an 03, but I could be wrong. It was supercharged. Yes, it was on a roll, but the Supra would just reel him in (even with a head start) then spit him out.

Anyway, it's the age-old battle of the beasts, run what you brung, import vs. domestic rivalry. To each his own. To me, there is nothing that sounds better than 1000+HP of straight six fury flying down the road - er, track.

I just like fast cars in general.
