Military? What branch?

UKMeyers homecoming just got me wandering on this topic. How many here are military. Active duty, Guard, Reserve, or Retired(thank you for your service!) No real reason, just curiousity.
Thanks

88M24, US Army Motor Transport Operator/Recruiter.

(Can you believe I scored a 94 on the ASVAB and wanted to be a truck driver???)

And as for ASVAB scores equating to military branches, here are some interesting facts, straight from the Department of Defense...

If you are a Senior in High School, you must score:

28 National Guard
31 Marines, all (Although exceptions are granted for 28-30).
31 Army Reserve
31 Navy Active/Reserve (Male)
40 Air Force Active/Reserve/ANG
50 Navy Active/Reserve (Female)
50 Active Duty Army (all)

The reasons for the Army requiring the highest test scores are:

High level of patriotism in the ranks
High retention
Changes in mission posture/technology
Highest bonuses/college money

and the biggest reason of all...

The Army is currently OVERSTRENGTH by 9,800 soldiers on active duty (can't pay people to get out right now), while the other services are undermanned.

I know the common misconception that the "smart" kids join the USAF, and the "dumb" kids join the Army, but times have changed. The Army is seeking out only the highest caliber of applicants. We are no longer a juvenile delinquent camp. Have a violent charge... DQ. 2 Drug charges... DQ. GED... DQ. No GED... Get out of my office NOW! 6 moving violations... DQ. 4 or more Tattoos... DQ. Anything on campus... DQ. Wife Beater... DQ.

Get the picture?

Anyone qualified and ready for a challenge? Let me know!

USN, duty served... 4 years.
GM2, SWIC

I miss the military. Civilian life is so... disorganized. And, I don't trust half the people I work with. Everyone I worked w/ in the Navy I trusted w/ my life. Call me cynical, but I feel like it's true.

I scored a 98 and I am a crew chief. Go figure. As far as standards, anything can be waived, all services have the most intelligent and well educated personel ever. However AF does not allow any drug convictions, I didn't think any branch did. Oh-well, I think now more than ever you are seeing the true integration of combat abilities. I respect the hell out of all you front line guys, but no more so than the guys fixing the equipment. Guess I'm biased though I do appreciate the effort of all though, makes me sleep a little easier.
Aaron
P.S. Are you all still under stop-loss?

Well said...

Convictions, no. Charges, yes.

Possession <20g. = BN Waiver.
Possession paraphenalia. = BN Wiaver.
Both at same time = BN Waiver.
Both separately. = Commanding General's waiver (45-60 days turnaround).

Yes. All services live in the same facilities, eat the same food, drink the same water, fight the same fight, and move to the theater of operations the same way.

Everyone is eligible for "front lines" now (even females, and yes, the USAF, too).

I know everyone is eligable for front lines, and some AF is there. What I meant is that as an F-16 mechanic, my chances are slim to none as far as being put in a foxhole or stuck in a convoy.
