Glad to hear he was okay.
I think that story speaks volumes about the quality of the wheelchair. Being that the wheelchair is motorized, I'm surprised something surrounding the wheels and/or motor didn't break when the driver reached speeds of 50mph.

I guess the tires are V rated. How they didn't explode from heat is beyond me!
