Looking for Lexus forum with "How to" or "DIY"

Does anyone know of a Lexus forum with a decent how to section or "Do it Yourself" Forum. My Lexus needs a head gasket replacement. The only thing I know right now is how expensive it will be. I hoping to get a little more info than a scarry price.

Thanks for the help

Not sure what engine your lexus has, but if it is a 1uzfe, 2uzfe, or 3uzfe (4.0, 4.7, or 4.3 V8), check out www.lextreme.com. Totally awesome site and the people there seem really helpfull and mature, like here. They really know their stuff when it comes to these engines. They build all kinds of hybrid combinations over there too.

I'm sure somebody there could help you out even if you have a 2jzge (3.0 I6). It's a great site!

Cool...Thanks for the tip. I think this is a great site. I hope to find a similar site. The engine I have is a 3.0 so I guess that makes it a 2JZGE. Today i pulled the plugs and now I'm thinking it isn't a head gasket. Tomorrow we will drain the oil and see.

Thanks again for the tips.

What vehicle is this? GS300? IS300? SC300? These are the only models with the 2JZGE. If it is this motor, you can also look at any Supra site. The last Supra (93-98) had this motor in the NA variants and the 2JZGTE in the FI variants.

If it's an ES or RX, this is the Camry motor.

I have the Lexus SC300 "92" Nice car, but when the dealer hears the word Lexus I think my bill doubles. Drained the oil today and it looks OK. The reason I thought it could be a head gasket is I found moisture in the line from my PCV valve to the intake. This and my car did run rough and I had smoke at start up. I’m thinking the smoke is from bad valve seals. When I pulled the plugs off I had a few questionable plugs. (Some what loose and dirty). I did replace the plugs and changed the oil and filter. It seems like it did smooth out a lot. I’m hoping the head gasket is okay.

Is the 2JZGTE the turbo version of the 3.0 Inline? WHat year are these available?

There is often condensation inside the crankcase that appears when the engine cools down. You often see it on the inside of the oil filler cap too. Nothing to worry about usually. The biggest indicators of a headgasket failure would be oil in the coolant or vice versa (which often looks like a thick milkshake when driven). Also coolant getting into the combustion chamber will make the plug look clean or may have white crust compared to the others which should be a light tan color if combusting properly. The smoke you saw is likely from bad valve seals but it would be tough to say for sure without actually tearing the motor down.

the sc300 has the 2jzge, its a pretty stout motor, you can plumb a turbo and get it up to 600hp with a stock bottom end, the 2jzgte can get up to 1000hp with a stock bottom end. It's a heavy motor too though. My roommate said a ls1 with a t56 weighs the same as a 2jzgte with a six speed.

I think this is what I had. No water in the oil and the plugs looked okay, except number 6 with a broken insulator. Other than that new plugs and oil change. It does look like I am losing some coolant, that with condensation in the oil and I think I over reacted. Fortunately I checked all these things before ripping off the head.
You guys have been very helpful, more so than the Lexus forum. Felt like I was cutting in on the mechanics kids chrismas by not taking it to a dealer. More money to throw at the truck, which is more fun anyway.

Thanks to MTL4runner for the expert advice "Nail on the head syndrome"

I know why they charge an arm & a leg to repair these cars; The other day, I had to removed the whole headlight assembly just to stick a new bulb in!
