Loading 1600lbs. in bed of pickup truck. Need help fast!

Well I'm trying to transport 1600lbs. of rocks about an hour away. I'm borrowing a 2001 Chevy Silverado longbed pickup. It's a 2WD, your basic work truck.

I loaded the rocks in the bed, and drove home (5 mins.) Now I'm looking at the rear and it's sitting really low, and the tires look way down.

Question is, is it safe to drive the truck with this load in the back? I spread out the rocks equally across the rear axle, but it still looks way overloaded.

Any help guys? I've never dealt with loading pickup trucks, only trailers.

Need any advice quick, I want to get on the road ASAP.

Didn't say it couldn't be done....I just wouldn't recommend it... of course, I've done a lot of things to my own trucks that Toyota wouldn't recommend...

As long as the front wheels are still contacting the ground, go for it.

I think 1600 lbs is over the half ton rating. That's more than a 3/4 ton rating.

I've seen trucks sitting like how your describing, and I probably wouldn't do it if I can help it. It would probably make it though.

Not sure what state you are in, but around here they have different tags for trucks that carry heavier loads. Not sure if it's like that everywhere now or not. Hopefully, you won't get pulled over and weighed. It's fun to watch the highway patrol weigh a vehicle though.

Yeah I'm an idiot. After staring at the truck long enough it clicked that it's a half ton. I've unloaded 15 of the bags and I'll be on my way. Thanks for the input guys.
