I wouldnt get a vw unless it has a tdi engine. If you want a tdi be prepared to travel to find one.... My dad who lives in the south bay bought his in the midwest. He loves it!

I have an 01 Jetta GLS 2.0 with 89k miles. Man, oh man.....
1) The transmission was slipping pretty badly a few weeks ago, turns out it just needed a flush. Thats all good now, but they have notoriously crappy Auto trannies. 2) I need a $160 "Door Lock Module" because my driver's door can't tell the car when it's open. That means no dome light, and doesn't like to play well with the alarm sometimes. 3) The door seals are notorious for rattleing. Bugs me, but it's easily fixed. Overall, I really like it. The material quality is MUCH nicer than you'd think. The car handles amazingly well, although it's no M3. I get about 23-27 mpg..thats the biggest selling point. Don't expect to merge too quickly with the 2.0. B+ rating ![]() It's *cute*.

i used t odrive my neighbors 1.8t bug... it was pretty quick and responsive, but blindspot was anything not in front of me, the pillars on that thing are huge!
she had PROBLEMS with it though.. the dealership always gave her crap, they even made her cry once saying her daddy bought it for her (she looks young, but at the time was like 35) and giving her jsut a lot of crap..... she spilled a soda in the passenger side floor board and had lights go off on the dash all the time..... the wing never engaged itself (supposed to be automatic), and then after she manually with the switch popped it up, sometimes the switch wouldnt lower it.... her headlight would go out seriously ever y6 months, and i did instal it correctly

I've had a 02 golf (2.0) and traded it for a 03 Jetta wolfsburg (1.8T). Before that I had a '96 golf for about 2 years. I've had no problems what so ever in about 6 years of VW driving. Maybe I've a horsshoe up my .ss, but I did have to replace my '97 4Runner engine at 150km (95K miles). The early 1.8T engines had problems with the coilpacks, but that's since been fixed.
They are very fun cars to drive, also in the winter when it's slippery, I prefer it over the 4Runner.

Have an 04 Passat 1.8t. Love it...no problems at all. We debated between Passat and Accord (tied for consumer reports best sedan in 04). Passat had so much more class appeal to it. Came with "leatherette" instead of cloth standard - feels/looks like leather to me. Crome accents give it a bit more class/professional look. Call me a snob, but I'm sooo glad we got that instead of an Accord. Just feels like a higher class.
Camelback VW here in AZ is awesome in customer service. We get free oil change coupons all the time from them...which worth like $40 from a dealer. End of year sales from VW are nice. 0% financing & invoice pricing...higher sticker than Accord came out to same price w/ many more options.
