I'm not really sure what you are asking. But get ready for a new kind of cold. Don't be suprised if there is 6+ feet of snow on the ground. Sometimes the 'highs' are in the teens. Yes, lots of skiing. Reno is about 40 minutes away. Lots of clubbing/drinking/partying options here.

This place is nice, not great for partying (it's pretty nice). Worth looking into and comparing to other rentals.

You might want to consider the weather. Just like it was said it will be veeery cold, and being that close to the lake will not help @ all.
There will be 3-4" ice on the roads the snow should be pretty good by then. Way different than Texas. We have gone up and camped around the lake and when you go to bed all is good, wake up in the morning 6' fell and its kinda hard to get out in anything that is not rolling on 35's and thats barley get out. A thought, why not stay at a casino in Reno, and drive over to Tahoe to do your skiing, its not that far really, and you can generally find some really good package deals form the casinos.

You could do Sacramento, it would be about 2hrs to tahoe if weather and road conditions are ok 2 1/2 to reno. Get 4wd, CHP will let you by chain check stations if in 4wd with snow tires, chains not required. I always get told to put it in 4wd if i need to.. have a safe drive.

when i traveled for my last job when i ended up in places like canada, alaska in the winter, i just told the rental agent when i booked my car i wanted a suv, truck with 4wd. make sure you specify full sized suv.
Avis, budget, hertz. are the ones i used for my last job. Book early they probably will go fast. I dont know to much about the area as i alway just drive home when i am done (2 1/2 hrs to tahoe). My brother has stayed @ a few places i think they where timeshares, which might be your best bet lodging wise if you want to stay close to Tahoe. just call the places up and talk to the registration people, and check out hte areas weather.

There are three general areas you can stay in the Lake Tahoe area:
North Lake Tahoe (including King's Beach, Incline Villiage, etc) South Lake Tahoe (City of South Lake Tahoe, Stateline) Reno IMHO, North Lake Tahoe is closer to more skiing options, but has fewer and smaller casinos. South Lake Tahoe (specifically, the town of Stateline) has fewer skiing options but more and bigger casinos. (If the weather is good, the drive between the two isn't bad, but the roads can shut down in a heavy storm). Reno has the advantage of being close to both, you get cheaper lodging, etc. but if the weather is bad, it can be pretty hairy getting to the ski areas. Considering the time of year you are going, I would definitely fly into Reno, because the main highways between Sacramento and Tahoe are more likely to get shut down in snow storms. If I were doing the trip, I would reserve a 4x4 at the Reno airport (Hertz, Avis, Enterprise, etc.), drive to Stateline and stay in one of the casinos. Heavenly has a gondola that picks up skiiers right outside the casinos, so skiiers can walk from the casino to the gondola and hit the slopes. All the good casinos are in walking distance, so you you don't have to worry about driving much once you get there. I think this would be the best solution for a group that size. You can also search google for "Lake Tahoe Vacation Rentals" to find a cabin if you want to avoid the casinos. Have fun- -Scubaduck |

Yeah... If you want skiing and casinos, I'd say your best bet is Stateline/South Lake Tahoe if you don't want to do lots of driving. There are a bunch of hotel/casinos there, it's kind of the tourist area that time of year.
There's Heavenly resort, and if you hit that on a good day it's just beautiful with views of the lake, and good skiing... Definately bring a camera and a load of money to spend there, it's not going to be cheap. The other good thing about Heavenly if you're staying in Stateline is that there's a gondola that you could probably walk to from any given hotel in the area that takes you right to the top where you can get rentals and tickets. Again though, it's major tourist season that time of year so it's very expensive. That time of year there's a good chance of snow on the summit, so driving from Reno up to the lake is usually a challenge if you're not used to snow driving. Mt. Rose summit, to get to Incline Village and a few ski areas from Reno, is usually open year-round unless there's an extreme dump of snow. If you want a cheaper, local ski area, check out Mt. Rose Ski Area. It's a nice place, maybe 25 minutes from where I live. Driving to Reno from South Lake Tahoe is usually an easier drive to go through Carson City via Highway 50, no telling if that's open. Reno likes the tourist activity and since it's a year-round tourist area the prices don't get all inflated in season. There's lots of casinos/hotels in Reno, as well as the airport so it wouldn't be bad to stay there either. Since I live there, I never stay anywhere, so I can't really recommend anywhere to stay. Most hotels in Reno that I've been to, sans the suites, are pretty low class unless you pay up. In South Lake Tahoe there's a renamed resort, Montbleu, that's really classy in the lobby/casino floor, so I'd guess they refurbished the rooms to be equally as nice, so it might be worth checking out. That's what I know..

there is a small muni airport in south lake tahoe...
best bet is to rent a house. maybe even 2 condos. i take you wanna ski. south lake tahoe has heavenly valley. and kirkwood and sierra ski ranch (old skool name... )north tahoe has alpine meadows, nrothstart and of course, squaw valley. NE tahoe has incline village and gambling. ![]() south lake tahoe has gambling but must be on the nevada side, shared by a cool casino. btw, that time frame you mentioned is PRIMO so expect to pay $$$$$$.
