Interesting statistics about manual Vs Auto trannies

http://www.detnews.com/2004/autosins...a01-271661.htm

in 2002, only 10% of cars sold in the US and Canada were equiped with manual trannies.

No wonder manuals are dying out.

Thumbs down

Meh. I read the same article 6 years ago, and my dad said (at that time) that he read it 30 years ago. Every once in a while they dredge it up because the automotive press doesn't have anything else to write about. I still don't buy it, and I'll never buy a slushbox on either a truck or a sports car.

I had a hellava time finding a 5-speed equiped V6.
Wanted that combo bad enough that I settled for a red truck instead of white or green.

Actually, I take this back...for the past 30 years the percentage of manual trannies has stayed pretty low...therefore, why should manual trannies die out...nothing has changed.

With a latte in one hand and cellphone in the other shifting gears becomes too complex

Though after 25 years driving stick I'm seriously considering auto next time, my left leg's getting worn out with all the shifting in rush hour traffic.

One of two things will happen, I will die, or the truck will be finished. I'm not sure which will be first.
