Incubus Sucks

I just thought I would throw this out there... but incubus sucks and i refuse to buy their music after seeing their 'megolomaniac' music video on MTV...

for those of you who haven't seen it, they flash hitlers face and then Bush's face and say 'step down ..... step down'

man, it makes me so mad that they compare him to Hitler! its so ignorant!

Anyways, we should all blacklist incubus!

now i will get off my soapbox! thanks.

Yeah, that music video is a little extreme, but I love their music. That's the way it goes sometimes, and as much as I don't like to hear about it, I just enjoy the music and try not to think about what they are trying to say.

This is my philosophy on politics: Every one has their own views on it. I found that people don't change their minds on their political stance unless there is something really really big that goes down. Any ways, I'm not going to try and preach my ideas to anyone. What good does it do? Incubus can say what ever the hell they want about Bush and what not, yes they are very ignorant for compairing Bush to hitler, but there isn't anythign that I can do about it.

Oly,

So true. Yet another group of misguided entertainers who shoot from the hip and can't back it up if challenged to explain the analogy.

The one thing that is harmful is that messages like this either forms a belief (planting a seed) in impressionable teens and/or young adults or reinforces a belief.

Yeah, so what can you do? don't buy their records and let them know via email or other means to let them know why. Ask the Dixie Chicks about that one. And even if it doesn't slow their record sales, it sure does send a message and maybe the next time, they won't be so quick to spew crud like that.

just because they have a radical video doesnt mean you have to go out and say they suck. "blacklisting incubus" just because of one video seems to me as ignorant as flashing hitlers face in a video. just as you have the freedom to disagree with such a statement, they have the freedom to depict things in videos.

another thing to consider..perhaps they did it to get people like yourself flustered and tell everyone about "the new incubus video"..thus making people want to see it ...

personally, i think its one of their best videos to date.

Who in their right mind can't see the difference? Whether you like Bush or not, there is no way anyone could compaire him to hitler.

Edit: Ok, you can start compairing Bush to hitler when Bush starts taking over Europe and killing jews, gays, etc.

but thats besides the point. the point of me posting that was to ask if anyone has heard their response to making the video and the explanation of an analogy, if any, found in the video.

I dont like Bush at all, but it is irresponsible to compair him to Hitler especially on a music video seen by kids and teenagers.

some might say. bottom line. they did it. who cares. if some people dont like it, dont watch it or say a band sucks because a whacked out director helped make a video. its done, nothing can be done about it. except to :rockband:

You can argue against those points. Bush isn't taking over any peacful nations. We liberated Iraq and got rid of an evil man. Anyways, I don't want to argue about it, you have your beliefs and I have mine. Who's right, I don't know.

I actually disagree with you somewhat. I think a lot of young voters are pretty easily swayed by the media!!!! I think people idolize rockstars and that although most people wont admit it, what they think is somewhat affected by the music and tv they listen to! Nobody will do a complete 180 on their political view, but at the same time, little things like this added to other things does matter. I dont think its cool to just completely ignore it. I am not saying you think Bush is bad if you like Incubus. I am just saying, celebrities carry a lot of weight, as laim as it is. You are right, there is nothing we can really do accept not support their CD... or MTV which is paid off by Record lables to play certain videos.

they chose to do it! that is all i am saying and now i will no longer suppor them.

to add onto your comment, your AVTAR may have something to do with your apathy toward the subject.

Not being American, I will say that the whole thing means little if nothing to me. I don't think that Bush and Hitler are very similar, but a bands political views have very very little to do with me listening to their music. They can disagree with how I feel, and I will most likely still listen to their music and buy their albums if I feel that they are worth purchasing (I download it first BTW).

Doink,

It's an assumption based on the recent history that the vast majority of these anti-Bush entertainers make statements that they can't back up when pressed on national television to back up statements like this. You know, typical "snipe and run" statements. Two good examples: the Dixie Chicks and Johnny Depp. Of course after the public outcry and national TV grilling, they "spun" what was the original intent of the hate speech. You know "Oh, we really didn't mean that! And no, its not only money. It's clear that they can't and couldn't back up their illogical statements.

So let me ask you Doink since you posted that link: did you read those 27 statements? And after reading them, are you convinced that they all true? Can you back each and every statement up? If not, why post it if it wasn't factual? I'm sure any person here regardless of political affiliation can see how the author stretches the analogies in every imaginable way. I could deconstruct each and every one, but what's the point? Its foolish writing and I hope you don't even think that any of this is true. If not, let's hear it.

Anyways as I said earlier, entertainers will be entertainers. I have no problem with them exercising their free speech. But as Steve (Robinhood) said once in another thread, freedom of speech has its consequences. And more to the point of my original reply, unfortunately i find that alot of young college folks just go along w/ the hate speech and believe this kind of stuff w/o examining the facts behind the statements. And that I find is truly sad.

Bob

Edit: doink- didn't read your reply. but again, why post it if you don't believe it?

Well, I guess deep down, I know that you are right. People are swayed by the media. I guess i'm just trying to be hopeful that people aren't as stupid as they actually are. Oh well.

I know what you're talking about Bob. Even though Montana is pretty conservative, this campus has quite a few liberals. It feels weird being one of the people in the small majority of young people that support Bush.

right on dude. and i agree on the marketing point.

and guys, it's music. band will say what they want, just deal with it accordingly. you don't have to listen. they know it, we should know it. if you decide not to listen to a band for their overall lyrics, whatever, then that's perfectly fine. i hope you don't make a hasty generalization tho.
bush it certainly not on the same level as hitler, but i guess i can see how they would relate the two, perhaps in a blind followers kinda way. not saying i agree 100%, but that could be it...

and this isn't necessarily a republican thing. i think i remember guttermouth comparing clinton to hitler. politics will always bring out stuff like this.

I believe this is all covered under by the first freedom mentioned in the First Amendment of the UNtied States Constitution. Incubus is free to say what they wish, as are you all. We are all free to ignore what we don't agree with as well.

"The First Amendment exists precisely to protect the most offensive and controversial speech from government suppression. The best way to counter obnoxious speech is with more speech. Persuasion, not coercion, is the solution." Quote:ACLU

I love Incubus as the makers of great music that they are, and I am not necessarily a Bush fan, however, I'm not sure the analogy does much more than prompt people to think about the policies of our government and the effect it has on our society.

"Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Quoted from the First Amendment of the United States Constitution

That's how I feel.

I think the video was made to stir the pot and create some controversy and attention to sell more records. look at their target audience which is pretty much under 25 and the majority don't vote or even pay real attention to politics.

What's next? Are we gonna start caring what Ozzy says when you can understand him? Clay Aiken....maybe William Hung? It's just entertainment.
