Don't do it. I did the exact thing for the exact reason (gas was over $3.50), but in the end I lost a lot of money and I'm still emotionally attached to the old truck. Had an 01 Jetta for under two months, then sold it for another 3rd gen...

I want to keep it but 1, its sooooo hard not to go wheelin to save gas money,ha ha... 2, i live 3 hours away where no one else who goes to my school lives, so its a good idea to split the bill, but not possible, and 3, I also have to drive 45 to Nashville, then 45 minutes back a few times a week....so I drive a lot. Youre right about not wanting to get rid of it after all the work, but dang.

Ok...good idea, but again, that costs money...that I dont have. So I could save up for that, but I cant save up for that, because I spend so much on gas....although I have always wanted a motorcycle. I WANT a Ducati 996 or a Monster, but what I COULD AFFORD is much different...anyway, back to topic. Oh, also, I would have nowhere to park it since we are only allowed one vehicle on campus...and I live on campus in apartments b/c its cheaper. Even if I moved off campus, which is way more expensive, most other apartments only allow one vehicle or parking spot too....kinda SOL unless you live nearby, or have a truck to park the bike in the bed of.

college is rough on the pockets man, i hear ya. next year ill be bringing my 4runner up to the mountains where i go to college and i get about 12mpg (at best) so i know ill be taking a hurting, but like a lot of members said, i couldnt imagine selling it. ive thought about it so many times, but in the end i know that i would just buy another 4runner or landcruiser. haha. so either way... youll probably end up back on the forum with a new toyota.

well, thanks guys...after thinking pretty good and hard about it, I think I know what Im gonna do....I think im probably going to have to sell it, BUT, in order to kind of post it for sale and still think about it, Im not going to take anything less than what I want for it, that way, if someone does come up with my offer or close to it, I can see if I REALLY want to sell it or whatever. I just cant have two cars, as you all have been suggesting. I have nowhere to put the other vehicle, and Im not asking my father to keep it at his place...he doesnt need anything else to take care of right now. Thank you all, and I pray this turns out for the best....

I am sorry to hear that, 6lug, and I am simultaneously not sorry. Painful as it may be, you are taking a choice that is based in delayed gratification. You have chosen to sacrifice now so you can continue to prepare yourself for greater success in the future. Not only is it a wise choice, but it is admirable in that deciding to delay gratification not yet experienced is difficult, but physically sacrificing an asset already in one's possession takes real determination and focus on the primary goal.
I applaud your development of a refined character trait such as this. There will be other 4runners, but now is the time for personal development.

I hope you can get an offer youre looking for.. I think your asking price is a little inconsistent with the market however..good luck in any event
