I ruffled some feathers here, sorry

Hopefully no Native Americans are offended by my use of the word "feathers".

Last night in a thread started by someone else and meant to be humorous, I posted a widely misinterpreted word that one member (maybe others who didn't post) said was racist and called for my ban. That was the first time in my years here that anyone ever suggested I'm a racist, an unfounded charge I take very seriously.

I responded with 3-4 definitions of the misinterpreted word in context, suggesting that the complaining member strengthen their vocabulary. I thought that would be enough to calm him down, but see the thread was deleted so Staff became involved likely due to his complaint. I hope he had time to read the links.

To Staff and anyone else who may have been inconvenienced or offended, I offer my apologies. I knew my post was edgy, it was meant to be a different type of humor my friends and family enjoy (and sometimes goes by another name that I won't post either), but know can be misunderstood on the Internet. I'd never consciously do anything to violate the rules or bring ridicule to YotaTech.

Although nobody contacted me with a suspension notice, I've decided to suspend myself.

The practitioners of extreme and hasty political over-correctness fail to realize that it breeds contempt for those that are different, almost as effectively as overt racism; albeit in a more roundabout way.

Perhaps the whiner should suspend themselves.

I read it and replied to the thread with comments of my own regarding racism, and no I didn't find the word offensive, but I am not non-white, and am not easily offended by off topic banter, I am however offended by some peoples views on shooting cats when they become slightly ill.

People need to get some perspective, and stop whining about their "misinterpretation" of words, and start getting offended by what goes on in the real world

Some people are over sensitive about many things, and as often happens, the loud minority get things done faster than the silent majority

Go get yourself a beer and don't worry about it.

I agree with you. There are too many injustices in the world to worry about a "word" that someone moron didn't even take the time to look up. Did you see that HBO documentary on PETA? Some of the footage in that show has disturbed me deeply. Watching a small fur bearing animal get it's head stomped to kill it. Dammit, that's awful. So these babies who cry about words on a forum are just like the rest of the US, they have absolutely nothing better to do than cry on a forum. Get out there and take a stand something you believe in if you're that sensitive.

In a way like the line being held at a club because they're over capacity. Next person in line is a minority, and claims it's racial. Only after they claim that it is racial does it become so.

What ever happened to people who get offended walking away and ignoring the comment?
What if the word "Cloudy" (Sorry if I offend anybody) was used in public and became known as a racial slur, does that mean I can go give the meteorologist crap for describing the skies?

For the people who take words out of context, perhaps the problem isn't the person who used the word correctly, maybe it's you.

By human nature we all have prejudices, it is part of life. Mature adults learn to control their own and ignore the obliviots who don't. It takes effort to be offended.

"Stick and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me" has a lot more truth to it than most realize.

I have no idea what you said nor do I care as I'm sure I've said worse.

I have to say, the post which you are referring to was pretty darn funny...

It was pretty fitting... I don't know why anyone would have taken offense to it..

ok thats what i dont get, they can say it all the time, can make fun of white people, mexican people, indian people, etc, but when someone else calls them something other than african american or black, they get all pissed off. thats what i dont get about this country. its WAAAY too sensitive. i mean i dont like the N word, and i will be teaching my kids that its a no-no word, but in some cases, its fitting. and that word that offended someone on here, had NOTHING to do about anything racist. if you think its racist at all, go read the dictionary. or better yet, go play in traffic.

it depends on what part of the country your standing in as to how dumb you are!! im sure if the staff thought it was bad they would of just banned him no questions asked.. and they seem to be a well rounded group of folks from differnt areas.. and ive noticed that most minority groups need to work on self image insted of blaming those around them. its kinda hard to scream equality and then go home that night and watch BET. (just an example) what if there was white entertainment television? we'd be shot..

Thank you, jtlinna3vze. I've been saying that for a while now. Why is it that things such as BET, NAACP, the United Negro College Fund, etc... are okay, but if there was a United White Guy College Foundation, I can garauntee that it would cause major controversy. Hell, there is a special box on the SAT forms in high school that says 'Check here if you are black.' That is ridiculous. Heck, I think people have more of a problem with the Black Panthers than they do the KKK. Both organizations are racist, yet only one gets ridicule for their beliefs. Political Correctness will be the downfall of our American society. I would tend to believe that BT17R is not racist in any way, and I'm sure whatever he said was taken way out of context.

It would be geared more towards adult, not white entertainment.

Besides, I think it's already on TV at CMT
