If it's anything like previous generations of Toyota vs. Nissan, just make sure he drives and rides in both of them, I'm pretty sure that will sell him on the Toyota.

Have him sit in the Tacoma then sit in the Frontier. You can tell the quality difference in the interior alone.

The nissan has more HP and i think TQ, but see at how many RPM it happens. It is not a good motor for a truck, you want low end grunt not a high RPM unit. Anything that makes it's peak TQ over 4000 RPM is not a good truck motor in my mind.
Secondly I doubt the interior of the Nissan will hold up compared to the Taco. Then also check ratings on CR for nissan vs the Taco. JD Powers, etc, etc everytime the Toy will list amongst the top and the Nissan midpack or slightly better. Drive both and see which one he likes best, I think the Taco is slightly bigger insode compared to the nissan. Pricing is very simlar for both. Not a big difference, but resale is a very different story as said above. Turning circle and payload the Taco has a good advantage. The frontier weighs like 400lb more so it will actually be slower than the taco even if it has a few more ponies. Hmmm same TQ at higher RPM weighs 10% more, lets see how they really perform. I find the interior specs listed by Nissan very hard to believe given the shorter wheelbase and less width compared to the Taco. So go check for yourself. http://www.edmunds.com/apps/nvc/edmunds/VehicleComparison;jsessionid=CPCXplndGpTFWfmwlQ1cQ bpnK1TQ1BKLKWv7LGnKJ7tp4B62N22B!1448435858?styleid =100506464&styleid=100482291&maxvehicles=5&refid=& op=3&tab=specs

I HATE TO TO SAY IT,BUT TOYOTA IS LOSING GROUND TO NISSAN.
THE FRONTIER HAS MORE POWER,DANA 44,OPT LOCKER,AND COSTS LESS! IT ALSO DOSN'T HAVE A PLASTIC BED.

AND WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH OUR "CAPS LOCK" KEY.
Nissan Frontier= 514,000 Toyota Tacoma= 646,000- Winner of the google war. ![]() I personally would rather have a plastic box on my truck, it's lighter and more durable. And since I can get my truck professionally undercoated for $50, it would cost half also.

I would take the Tacoma over the Frontier anyday, but when it came to the Titan vs the Tundra...I might have to think about it. I don't think you can argue quality as much anymore and it does have more options and is cheaper but Toyota still has the edge on styling.

I'd say drive both and see what he likes;my vote would go to the Tacoma but we are a bit biased and I've driven both an '05 Sport and an '05 Off Road versions and they both were sweet. I checked resale values on the Frontiers and they seemed to be holding pretty well so that could just be a wash when comparing since anything from Japan seems to hold it's value decently.

Current Nissans are crap and lack quality, Tacomas average 15-30k units a month, Frontiers are lucky to sell 5000 a month, Nissan has to sell them for less cause they are not equal to the Toyota, anyone I know drives a Tacoma and says Nissan is not worth it and the people who drive Frontiers want Tacomas

I saw 4 titans parked in the used lot at the dodge dealership less than a month after they came out... Not sure about the new frontiers, but you pretty much get what you pay for here...
Its like buying an audi vs a subaru. Both are awd are fast, and fund to drive. But at the end of the day your driving a subaru. Go sit in both back to back and you'll know what I mean. Same goes for these two. |

Thanks for the replies guys, but alas, it's too late
2 days ago my dad tells me he isn't going to look untill spring, today I come home from work and guess what's in our driveway....a new 05 Nissan Frontier! ![]() BUT, it's hard for me to say anything bad about it so far. It does look pretty awesome, at least better than I thought (especially in dark gray) and DAMN does it accelerate! It's got the 4.0 V6 w/the 5 speed auto....just like the new Taco's, although I'm not sure how the specs compare. It rides JUST like a car though...which I didn't care for. I'll take my Tacoma with stiff suspension, rough brakes, and wide turning radius anyday Anyway, we'll see how it holds up in the long run I guess. All in all I still think the 05 Taco looks better and has better options for guys like us, but this Nissan will see mostly highway miles so I guess it's good choice for my dad. Thanks again for all the replies!

Nope, no Nismo package. Just a plain ol' 2wd doublecab.
It's just begging for a lift though

To each his own
But I personally think that Toyota has always been the best (no questions asked) in the mid size truck market Congrads though, at least your dad is experiencing that "new car" feeling
