I'd still stick with the fj, especially since FORD has its dirty hands in land rover.

i didnt know they were still being made? awesome. too bad they arent available in the states.
i think they are sooo fricken cool, but whats with the small engine? my honda has more hp than that! torque, maybe not, but still. i thought it would at least have a v6. i like em, for the body style, more than the fj, but in terms of features and all around vehicle, id pick the fj.

Looks cool, but how is the reliability? Doesn't the saying go when you buy and Land Rover you have to buy a mechanic as well? (something to that effect).
Interesting how their seems to be a resurgeance of the Land Rovers. I noticed out west (Utah) there were a lot of Land Rovers and advertisements for them. You almost NEVER see one in Iowa unless you are in West Des Moines.

I'd take that in a heartbeat over the fj cruiser. It looks better and it has a diesel engine.

It will be in the shop more than the FJ ever would.
You could never talk me into driving a non Toyota. Toyota has the reliability hands down.

Thought I would weigh in on this one. I drove a Defender 110 TD5 today, and it was probably one of the weakest 4x4's I have ever driven!
The LR felt like it had less power than my old 3.slow w/ 32's... Not to mention the fact that it was having internal transmission problems(5 spd) w/ 22K on the odo. The only thing LR still has going for them is their classic looks, and they are getting old after 50+ years. |

They had not been importing the 90 - has that changed?

I Like it.

Those things have had diesels for eons. A friend of mine was looking at an imported 88 diesel. I've always like them, my grandfather had an "old" one (for that time) back in the '70s.

In my quest of buying a manual transmission 4x4 I test drove a new FJ and hated it. The engine and trany felt great, however I think the interior sucks. It feels like driving inside a coffin. It is hard to see back and too large of a blind spot for my liking. Sitting in the back seats feels too dark and trapped. BUT, I still love Yotas..... and I ended up buying a newer 5-speed Runner.

I guess different strokes for different folk's...
The FJ Cruiser is by far the best rig I have ever owned. Blind spot, that cracks me up when people say that. There is none if you are use to driving a cargo van, Corvette, ect, anything that does not have huge windows like other cars, trucks, or SUVs. The interior makes me feel like I am in a space ship about to go into hyperspace/wapr drive. In other words, I love it. Plenty of room, and far more than my 4Runner I traded in. Much more room to stretch out, and more side room too, the passengers are not right on top of you. A diesel might be nice, but remember, diesel is also the most expensive fuel now. The big wig gas companies sucked in all of the big Ford, Dodge, and Chevy owners of these big diesle trucks, and now a lot are regretting it since the fuel is more money. I can hardly go anywhere too without getting a thumbs up or a big gawk coming my way. Before long, you may see these too while out driving.

diesel is cheaper around my way. i was waiting for the diesel fj also, but i've wanted an lr d110 since 93, the only yr it was available here. they stopped selling the d90 here when airbags were mandatory. the 110 is old now and i can see how it can be considered sluggish.
gas and diesel prices - hmm diesel is going up but that should fix itself. http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pe...dcus_nus_w.htm

Looks like that FJ is hanging a rear tire, Corey. I was not impressed by one of them on the trails. My truck stock had more flex than those FJs have.

Have you ever driven a D90??? THEY ARE HORRIBLE at best... besides the 4x4 system is not one I would want on a DD, its either AWD or locked, front center rear... i.e. cant drive on snow, ice, turn, etc etc... not something I would ever consider...

Everyone who drives one is impressed. Believe me, they flex. I should also add that I rode in Will's FJC at the Toyota Trail Team Event a week before I got mine. His flexed just fine & dandy. He was doing the trail that two soild axle rigs were on, I was very impressed.

Maybe it has a few optins that make it better off road than the FJ but when you hit the pavement that thing looks ugly with minimal style.............from the '80s.
Let's not mention the 120hp which would really suck for any kind of reasonable speed when you hit a hill on the highway. The FJ would be better for around twon and more than adequate on the trails and for the cost of the Rover you probably could buy the wife her own FJ to match yours.

Reliability aside, I'd take that Rover in a heart beat over the FJ. The FJC does not do it for me at all. Personally, I don't think Toyota did well on the design (no offense to the FJC owners. It's just my opinion). Anyway, getting OT.
I think the Rover looks great. It's got a modern appeal, and kept the classic design. It's a sweet looking rig. Wonder what the gas mileage is with the 2.4L Diesel? I'm guessing it'd be pretty good.
