I myself dont see very much bad language here. I think the moderators do a very good job. Not only on the language, but keeping posts on topic, and where they should be. Good job guys. Neways, I myself never read the rules, lol, but I just assumed that all of us would have the common sense, and brains, to not have to use hardcore swear words. Its not necessary, some words can be used to stress a point, but the f word doesnt really have a place at all. Its not like we dont have freedom of speech, they just dont want it polluted with a bunch of crap. As far as kids, I dont have none, but I was one. They will learn it on there own. Hell, if theyre learning bout toyotas with dad, they must be pretty smart! They prob already know, its up to the parent to let the kid know whats right and wrong, not the people doing the wrong things.

After all, it isn't much of a request. Just simply not typing profane words, all of which have synonyms NOT blocked by the censor.

But not you. Oh no, not you. You feel that, since God graced you with eyes, 10 fingers, and what could be generously called a brain, you must disrespect this man, give him the exact opposite of what he asked.

It really is great to have you on the forum. Such pollution of these pages is much appreciated by me, and, I'm sure, by the mods and Wabbit.

Perhaps you could even have the mods change your screen name to "cork soaker", but perhaps you don't watch Saturday Night Live.

I surf the forum from Boeing before work, my two breaks, and at lunch.
Believe me, if I am surfing here while at work and someone posts something that raises the eyebrows of the ones who monitor all our web activity and I get in trouble, someone here is going down

One of Chris's and my policies here has always been to have a place you can surf from anywhere without the fear of someone at work turning you in for viewing inappropriate language or other material.

The unmonitored internet isn't the best place for any of our kids or some of us adults either. BUT. It's a good tool for all ages for a variety of reasons and something they'd better become familiar with. I use the images and information to cover everything from what certain instruments look and sound like to what a Chinese Dragon is and everything in between. It's nice to answer a question with images or information that I don't posses.
I am on a handful of boards but there are some I have to wait until my kid goes to bed to read, no matter what information or entertainment I might be looking for and there are boards like this one, that I am on because I am able to look at it any time I need or want to

like hab said, the open internet? no. and whoever said that kids hear curse words at school, tv, etc. they may hear it, yeah. no stoppin it. but we can stop it here, kids shouldnt have to read vulgar language. i mean id love to come on here with my little sister when shes out, but i cant, cuz theres so much profanity(and she knows what it all is). and for the people saying its against freedom of speech.. yada yada, it may very well be, but YOU agreed to have your freedom of speech taken away. and vulgarity isnt covered by freedom of speech.. read up on your constitution. so come on people, is it so hard to not curse on here? i mean i curse like a sailor outside of this board, but only when im around people i know well. some stuff slips out around others, but thats what happens when you were raised in profanity and fighting parents. anyways, lets go over it again: KEEP YA DARNED MOUTH CLEAN! i really like coming on here and not having to read curse after curse.

the only place i see swear words on this forum is the off topic board, but it is usually unnecesary. i try my best to not swear on here or anywhere on the internet i think i might have swear words in maybe 3 of my posts on here, so i think im doing pretty good. anyways i agree with wabbit that the swearing on here is not good because little kids read this forum.

lol i know i dont like to read pirate 4x4 in front of my mom because of the language on there and thats on the tech part of that forum i dont even try to go to the chit chat lol.

I rarely see the cuss words and maybe if I do I don't pay enough attention to it to notice. I guess it's easier to look uneducated than put proper sentences together and spell correctly.

OK I just have two things to say about this post:

1) That was, quite possibly, the most original SNL skit since Chris Farley was still kickin.

2) Beautiful. All it was missing was the Budweiser (queue music) "Real Men of Genius" theme playing in the background. I applaud you, sir, for putting together such a beautiful string of words. I am truly jealous!!

Ah yes, classic. Now I have to be honest, I only saw it via e-mail as I've lost interest in SNL since Will Ferrel left. Was that Janet Jackson in the tour crowd? I was dyen when she almost lost it like 5 times!

X2 on the great post Axle; That's good stuff. I also back not swearing here, we voluntarily gave up that "right" when we joined, and admittedly I too swear quite a bit around people I know well but that doesn't mean I can do it everywhere. It's a common courtesy, respect the man's wishes he asked very politely. Wabbit, I think it's super-cool that you read this with your sons. That's a good Dad.

We thank you all for the responses here.
Hey, I can swear up pretty good too when I am on the company of close friends, but never within earshot of people I do not know or those who I know would be offended by my words.

It is called common sense and courtesy.

I think all should practice it online too, as you never know who is watching.
There are other forums out there where they do not give a darn about that sort of thing, and more power to them if that is the way they want to keep their ship afloat.

I'd like to add that I was looking for a language policy on the Acura forum I mentioned earlier. It just says "vulgarity," which is pretty broad. They don't seem to care one bit about family-friendly. Someone over there put a post similar to Wabbit's, and the outpouring of profanity was amazing (page after page), just to spite the original poster who said it was offensive. That's why I come here when I have free time. I can read this anywhere, and I really appreciate that.

Wabbit's kids are gonna be working on Yotas in a few years. They're gonna be breakin' parts, bustin' knuckles, and cussing up a storm. Might as well keep 'em innocent for as long as possible.

It's one thing to have a dirty mouth in your daily chit-chat and off-hand dialouge, we all do. Bad words slip sometimes. But you can't 'slip' on a keyboard. Every word typed is thought out and arranged, so to include swear words is just ignorant. Clean it up or go somewhere else. I've found that the members who consistantly provide answers and ideas to everybody else's threads are also the one's that don't feel the need to swear in their posts. Just something to think about.

does not know all things

This particular quotation comes from a dialogue between St. Augustine (Unlce Gus) and St. Thomas Acquinas where in essence Uncle Gus was taking Thomas down a notch in his book "The City of God" (IIRC).

Translating the latin to an equivalent modern English translation it means "The words you speak are full of poo!" or "Blah blah blah" Kinda like the Old English "I bite my thumb at you" with the modern middle finger.

Now you know.
