A good reason to tow in neutral, not park...

I like that, it looks like they dragged it quite a long way like that, haha.

you guys this really has nothing to do with it being a ford other than it being dragged in park. once the tow truck driver gets to the car you arent suposed to do anything but watch, they are suposed to make sure the car is ready to tow. i was told to step back from my runner when it was getting towed... that somewhat pissed me off but he said he was just doing his job.

Yeah,we know it has nothing to do with it being a Ford but we make fun of it anyway and their owners.

I wonder if this happened from a "trespassing tow"?

I spent 30 years in Chicago, and a couple of those years was living right next to a parking lot that was behind Wrigley Field (where the Cubs play). The lot would close "promptly" at 10pm, and after the night games, there were still PLENTY of cars in the lot at 2200.

So, at 22:00:01, there were always 10 tow trucks in the lot pulling cars. If you've ever heard the song "Lincoln Park Pirates", that's who these guys were.

The tows were legal, but their method of doing it was incredible to watch - in fact, we'd often sit next to the lot in folding chairs with a 6 pack and watch these guys work.

They'd storm the lot, hook a car on the fly, and pull. It didn't make a difference if the car was nosed in, backed in, in park, alarm set or not - they'd be on the hook and out of the lot in well under a minute.

The tow lot was about 7 blocks away, and you'd hear the alarms going off all the way down the street. Each truck would tear off to the lot, drop the car, and be back in 5-6 minutes.

Anyway... MANY times I can tell you that cars jammed in park were pulled down the road, tires screeching away. While the tow driver would technically be "responsible" for not damaging the vehicle, they didn't care.

I was towed once by those guys... the tow lot is a SCARY place. VERY INTENSE. I know a couple of people that tried to raise trouble with them for damaging their cars in a tow... illegal or not, they'd have to sue to get any money out of these guys.

Everything has to do with it being a Ford. If it wasn't a Ford, it wouldn't have broken down.

Seems like the squealing tires whould have tiped off the driver that something wasn't right. That must have made quite a niose.

A contracted tow on a trespass; abandoned vehicle; repo... there are a number of reasons.

See my recounting of the Lincoln Park Pirates above. I spent two years of baseball seasons watching tow drivers ignore all sorts of noises.

Apparently that was what happened, it was dragged for 50 miles before the driver noticed the sparks in his mirror.

"A customer had his SportTrack towed into our shop this morning. He was towing his SportTrack behind his Motorhome "Coach" for about 50 miles before he noticed a problem. There appeared to be a lot of sparks coming from his SportTrack. There was only one small problem, when he got his SportTrack all setup behind the motorhome he forgot to take the trans out of park. Yep he had been towing it for the last 50 miles in park. The tires were gone and the rims were half gone, must of also wore down part of the axle housing to because it was leaking. Don't know how the trans is yet."
