The Gibson (Les Paul) Robot guitar

I use to own a '73 Les Paul I got brand new back in '73.
It was a great guitar, and I was an expert tuner.
But I hated putting on new strings, as sometimes you would break the core and the string was then worthless.

I have been wanting to get a reissue of of the SG Standard like Angus Young uses from AC/DC.

Saw this new Gibson yesternight in the new issue of CPU magazine, and sure enough, its on YouTube.

It tunes itself, it puts the string on itself, and it shows you how to tune the bridge if you have to.

I do not care for the color though.
The magazine said its been in the works for the past 10 years, and they just introduced it this past December for $2.5K.

Later this year there will be one for under $1K, but no doubt it will not be a Paul.

Anyone see this gidfiddle yet?

Color me very impressed

I was waiting on the transperformer tuner thing that Jimmy Page was promoting 5-10 years ago but this far surpasses that. I especially like the bridge adjustments as not many people do that adjustment when the action gets too high. I just hope this will have more tunings than the ones they displayed, I like to tune down low, almost low enough to need a baritone.

Very Cool!!!!

Yeah, that is also amazing how it can do the different tunings.
I swear, if they offer this is an SG Standard, I may have to go for it.
I want to get an SG anyways.

I liked my Les Paul I had way back then, but I like the neck better on the SG.

Yeah...pretty cool. I like that it can do alternate tunings too.

First comment on the page was "its easier to just tune manually than play with that button". First thing came to my mind was the same. However, this is FRIGGING cool

The CPU article in the mag said that purists may cry and balk at the thought of a device doing the tuning for them, but they also mentioned writers use to say the same thing about spell checking when it first came out years ago.

They said the dictionary was the only way to go.
Yeah, look at them now, they all hit the F7 key in MS Word or whatever program they are using to do the spell checking for them.

PS, the CPU article is online where I read about it yesternight.

hey corey, im somewhat of a musician myself, though i lean more towards OLDER BC Rich guitars, the american made ones, with the EMGs and floyd rose tremelo... though i wouldnt mind havin a les paul or an SG. automatic tuning takes away the fun! interesting thought though. now if i was gonna run a jackson guitar with some distortion, what would be the best amp for the price? a crate, marshall, fender, LINE6, etc? lookin for at least a 100W dual speaker amp, since im looking to get a cab in the near future...

I have always been partial to Marshall.

Another very good amp, and they make great guitars too is from a mail order company.
They make Paul and SG clones, and they are very nicely made, perhaps even better than Gibson.

I use to get their catalogs, but for the life of me I can not remember their name.

I know you can dial in their amps to sound like just about any other amp on the market too.

It will come to me later.
Sucks getting old.

Well dang, just came to me, Carvin.

Nothing wrong with Mesa. I've had my 93 Tremoverb for 11 years and the tone still kills. Other amps have come and gone but this one keeps on keepin' on.

One thing I have learned in over 20 years of playing is a quality instrument (amp included) will stay with you for a long time and will reward you one last time if it's time to sell. A cheap one will eventually be replaced and you will get pennys on the dollar for it.

We are fortunate to live in a time when there are numerous quality amps available, unlike the times when your quality choice left Marshall or Fender. Do some research and you'll be amazed by the vast array. Some to check out: Bogner, Roccaforte, Bad Cat, Mesa, VHT, Rivera, etc.
