Our best deal around here is either Sheetz (convenience store) or Sam's Club. I try to go to either of those.

It's 76 Union 91 octane, or non at all
![]() Been using it for years, and I will stick with it. By the way, last time I gassed up it was about $2.07 per gallon. I have to get gas Friday, hopes it's gone down a tad.

The cheapest no-name gas is still $2.09 for 87 octane down here. That's usually where I go.

I use mostly Citgo 89. It's at about $1.59 for 87. Forget what it is for 89.
Have fun all. DH6twinotter

Chevron with Techron Supreme Plus is 94 octane here. Don't buy the stuff personally. But I know 87 octane is @.90 cents per LITRE.

I will usually go out of my way to hit Sheetz. They are the cheapest about 95% of the time, and I can use my regular non-debit ATM card. 87 is $1.59 or so in general around here.

What advantages does 91 have over 89?Oh, 76 89 octane is about $2.25 around me |

I will only buy gas from Hess. They do not import from the Middle East - my little way of supporting our country. Fortunately, they are generally the cheapest in town, but never more than 1 or 2 cents per gallon more.

Even the dealer told me that. I have run the medium grade with is 89 here, and I pinged. My timing is also set to stock, so it's not the timing. You can get away with a lesser one, but even though I have a new short block in my rig, I have the original heads. They have over 170K on them, and I'd imagine some carbon build-up. With carbon build-up on them, that is almost like raising the compression ratio. The higher the compression ratio, the higher octane you must use. If the heads ever get replaced in the future, I could drop down in octane. Or perhaps I will get the cleaning done that Gadget recommends for about $110 or so with the Snap On Motor Vac system. That cleans your upper fuel rails, injectors, and I think the carbon build-up in the heads. I am not sure on the latter, I will have to look into it more. |
