fox in my yard. any fox experts?

ok, so i wake up this morning at some un godly early hour. go downstairs, make the coffee. i notice the motion light in the back yard is on. wondering why its on, i look out the back door, only to see a fox walking around in my yard. this wouldnt bother me except for 2 reasons. 1. my yard is fenced in with a 4' high fence. seems to me this is like a huge fox trap. i can see how something could get in my yard, like from the wall that runs along my nieghbors yard that butts up to my fence. and unless a fox can jump back over a 4' high fence, i dont see how it can get back out. reason 2. the fence is there to keep my dog in my yard. and since i am lazy, my dog has a dog door to go in and out of. now, i dont mind waking up to my dog on my bed, but i sure wouldnt want to wake up next to a fox. from what i understand foxes dont like people or dogs, and will run away. what i am afraid of is if this thing is stuck in my yard, and my dog comes across it, i am thinking my dog will see a mobile chewy toy, and go after this thing. i think this could end bad if these two come together.

anyone got any ideas?

See if it likes dog treats.

I'd call animal control.

call one of the Chester County "hunt clubs" (joke)

Off topi - I LOVED having foxes in the yard when I lived out int he sticks of Chester County.
-- No Canadian Geese in the pond - they might stop over but they never stay the night - gee wonder why

Also - after growing up in the burbs where rabbits sloowly hop about and eat all the lawns it was intersting to see rabbits running abotu SCARED...

Get a BB gun and see if you can hit a moving target...

Just call someone to get it out for you...you don't want to try yourself and then deal with rabies or some other disease.

i would think a fox could clear that fence also, if not in bound then at least onto the fence and climb over, like a cat would do it. Now I realize foxes aren't felines, but this seems like something that would be in thier bag of wiley fox tricks...

worse coems to worse....keep dog in the house, open the gate on your fence.

Like was mentioned earlier, he's not shooting just to be killing, the thing could be carrying some harmful stuffs. Though it would be best just to call.

I saw a coyote eat a cat once in my backyard (This was when I lived in San Diego) I went out afterwards to see what was up, and all that was left was the face, kinda like a mask sitting on the ground.

So, with this in mind, I would call Animal Control. Let them deal with it.

we had a fox hanging around for two whole weeks...

as far as figuring it out... don't kill it or lead it to be killed unless it's already rabid.

but get it away from your house, whatever you do...

just use good common sense and trust your own judgement...

if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything, whether it be becoming the Pope (I can't) or getting a fox out of your back/front/side/field??? yard.

Im starting to see coyotes in some of the parks around here at night. I saw one eating a cat in a residential neighborhood too. They really need to go back to letting people hunt them with dogs, then they wouldnt be invading towns.

Foxes make their "living" in neighborhoods. You can easily tell if a fox has rabies or not. If they seem like they're drunk or don't run when approached then something is up. Also- they can jump 4 foot fences in their sleep. I would just walk outside and make a lot of noise- he should run off.
