Lemme run this idea with Chris.
Sounds like a good idea, and yes, the pics would have to be hosted off site. If they were hosted here, it would shoot up our bandwidth, and cost of the server. Members can use a free Webshots account if they need space, and use that URL to make their pics show up as explained on the Pic help page I have setup that is linked on the "YotaTech Community" page. Adding a field to the member profile I can look into also. It would work best too if no one replied to the owner of the post. Then the thread would just get gubared if you know what I mean. In fact if we do set this up, any replies in the post other than the owner of the post will be deleted, no ?'s asked.

I was thinking the same thing...if someone wants to reply..'PM' em instead. Maybe even just link the reply button to the send user PM? The thread owner would just edit his thread when he wanted to provide updates. Just trying to think of the best way to provide maintanence for it. It would be pretty crappy if the Mods had to go through and delete posts everyday. But at the same time, its nice to know when someone did something new to thier truck...so being able to reply to your thread to get it to the top would be very nice.
This is all just a suggestion...I know the perfect solution would require quite a bit of programming. Maybe V-Bulletin has an add-on for this type of thing?Or just do something like forsale threads. Edit your "Check out my truck" category...and then link it to a Main forum category ("General Truck/SUV discussion?") for replies/comments from other members? Sorry for dragging it out so much...Im really bored at work today. Someone hack into a bank or something! Give me some action over here! Been here for 6 hours and did 5 mins of work! |

Sounds like a good idea. I especially like the part to where no replies are allowed. That would create the true gallery environment that we're looking for. I think that if you guys got the forum set up and posted stickies in every other forum, it would grow very quickly. Shoot, I'm already working on my description and pic.

It also occured to me that there could also be a video section in the photo gallery of wheeling trips. Such as links to videos that others host on their website that they'd like to share, instead of creating new threads with links to the video.

We already have a place to posts pics & vids of wheelin' trips in the main forum area in the trail planning section.
Chris, I, and staff will be talking about this more later... What this section would entail would almost be like a "mini website" for the person who doesn't have a website. All they need to do is get pics hosted to a site, and we would rather not use the pic attachment feature here, kind of defeats the purpose of the area anyways. Also huge pics in a post would make for scrolling, so if pics were viewed inline, make 'em one size, or use thumb nails like I use of 160x120 and link them to a bigger pic like I do at 1024x768. That is why we have strict guidelines on the Member's Gallery page that Al setup. I have seen to many online galleries where the pics are all sized different, and it looks like crap. With the way our current gallery is, all the pics & text are lined up like nice little soldiers, and it's easier on the eyes that way. |

I think you should differentiate between the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen pickups and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen 4runners because the generations of each model span different years of vehicle production.
It would also help those who are confused about the issue. Just a thought, Todd

Cool, we are hoping this new section takes off.
If not, it's gone. Please read the rules & regs for that section, they are linked on the cat strip for the area. I did not want to put up a sticky post in each section stating the rules, but I may have to. Someone already replied to my profile post, and that is a This section is only for the creator of the posts. If a person has questions, they can ask via email or PM. This is to keep the persons profile was getting tons of posts in there. This will be enforced, and posts added other than the creator of the post will have their posts axed. |
