Talking Flying at last

Every kid has a dream for a few weeks to be a police man and a firefighter and a pilot. Well I never outgrew the pilot dream. Finally yesterday I started to take lessons!!!! Im so excited! Im flying out of 2V2 Vance Brand airport in Longmont. It was bumpy yesterday buy my thousands of simulator hours allowed me to sufficently impress my instructor!!

I figured that I would let everybody in on my little dream and update my progress as I go through training. Hopefully I will get to take my Check Ride on my 17th birthday in october. That is as soon as I legally can according to FAR part 61.??. Who knows.... maybe I can be the first YT member to get certified while a member. Do we even have any other pilots in here at all??

Dont worry. My dad is paying for my flying lessons so I can still put all my money into my Taco!!

AVSfreak congratulations!! I had that very same dream. It took me till I was 25 to achieve it though. I got my Private License back in November. It was by FAR the most challenging and rewarding thing I have ever done. I've since logged over 100 hours and taken numerous friends up flying with me. Just remember to keep the end game in sight and learn as much as you can from your instructor while your training. Other than that don't sweat it and have fun. Here's a picture of my airplane.

Do we have other pilots here?
You bet...and we're all pulling for you.
My advice: STAY WITH IT !
Too many people start flying but never complete the ticket, mostly due to $$$. Sounds like that won't be an issue for you.
As for skydiving from a 172, shortly after your check ride...all those pilots are now laughing...

well the $$$ will be an issue. My dad aggreed to pay for the lessons. anything more than that is my $$. I am working two jobs this summer and should pull in about 4K. with 2K in the bank and out 3K for my truck insurance, and lift, and repairs, that leaves me about 3K to get rental time with. at $94 and hour thats at least 31 hours but I will still be getting about $60 a weekend to help offset some of the costs so I just have to manage my budget tightly! and who knows, maybe I can get some money out of friends who want to go up for a ride!! Thanks for all the support! I go up again monday!

Blair Avid Flyer C model with a 582. Grosses at 1085 and cruises at 90-95 on 4gph. If you work it a little bit you can have it off in 100ft. Only weights 484 empty!

Almost identical specs as my S6. I mostly cruise around 75-80, though. I just don't like seeing those temps climb.
AVSFREAK1234 - that's just the START of it, but it's ALL well-worth it.
Wheels, Wings or Women...they're all going to be very expensive. However, paying for the lessons is THE most significant factor, because so many run out of funds before completion, and never return.
Blue Skies!

I've always dreamed of getting my private license, I'm young and hope it will come true someday, if I can stop putting money into trucks.

CONGRATS!!!

Flying is like nothing else. I have mostly rotor wing time, but started getting my fixed-wing this past winter. I got half way thru, I only need 30 hours, but had to stop to head to AZ for the Apache course. I was going to finish it this summer but I am off to Afghanistan in a couple weeks. I hope to rack up 500 hours over there.

Keep up with it, and be sure to practice EP's, even after your checkride... they are what make the good pilots great!!

so yesterday was my second major hop! I now have 1.7 hours! started off with takeoff. my instructor put his hands behind his head and said go...after we went over the procedures. full power, rudder to keep on the centerline and rotate at 55 in a 172 and climbout at 75KIAS.

after that we did the 4 fundamentals lesson even though we covered that on the intro flight.

Then we did some emergency procedures. the full lean, carb heat on, type engine failure. that was fun with a hard deck of 1000 AGL which Im sure would be a little more scary in a real situation.

after that fun time I got to fly approach until ground effect! that was the most fun I have had yet!

Have you felt that nice 15foot drop when you flare to early on landing? Its noticible. I have mostly flown 172's, FANTASTIC aircraft. I got about 1.5hrs in that Cirrus shown above... its amazing the technoloy differences...

Good luck, EP's are fun.. Although I must say that being a helo guy, stalls SUCK!! they are so unnatural to me..And you think that 172 fall fast with no power... try a helo, my apache falls around 3K/min...The first time my IP pulled the power on the 172 I did my helo stuff, picked a field under the nose and started going for it...little did I realize I had enough time to take a nap before looking for landing site.....

Post some pics when you get em..

well after numerous scheduleing conflicts I finally got up again today. It was fun working on slow flight and stalls. I even flew approach again. However, it was my last flight with my instructor. He was an hour builder instructor... he got a job flying comercial out of tennesee (sp?). so next flight on monday is going to be with an older retired guy who will hopefully work well with me. transitions this early on are terrible. but I guess that I have to deal with it either way.

You will learn way more from the 'retired' guy. He's in it for the love of flight...he's got enough hours to pick and choose when he'll fly and WHO he'll fly with.
The Instructor/Pilot relationship is very important to your success. I hope he likes you and I also hope you are able to get along with an 'old timer'. Remember...he's forgotten more than you know right now.

I think you will really like the retierd guy... like Blair said, he flys because he wants to.

Also IP changes arent always a bad thing, you see differnt perspectives, even at lower hour levels. I had an IP change after my first big checkride..18 hours (in a helo thats REALLLY LOW hours).. I was pissed at first, but wow... I learned a ton and had a blast doing it...
