SGMongoose: The front/rear bumpers and the roll bar are all made by Smitybilt. I think these models are long discontinued, but they still pop up on craigslist once in a while. Shoot me a PM, I might be able to get you some.

Very nice truck there! Man just seeing pics of your trails makes me wish I lived in SoCal! That truck brings back some great memories...I wonder how many people notice what it is when you drive by!

Danny, that is one Rad truck! I have become inspired to try and do the same, If you do not mind me asking, how much did all the modifications after you bought the truck from the previous owner? A rough estimate would be Awesome!

Hippy Heath: I actually didn't spend that much. Just the roll bar, knock-off lights (but with authentic covers... haha), wheels/tires, and a paint job I did myself. All-in-all, including the truck and a thorough tune-up, I've put in about $6k.
Actually, I'm considering the possibility of selling it. This thing is too nice for me to roll over on the trail, I need a beater. -danny |

Considering my license plate says "88 MCFLY", the truck actually doesn't get as much attention as I thought it would. A couple of thumbs ups, a couple of "what are you looking at butthead"s, but I was hoping for a dude in a red chevy pick up to pull up next to me at a stop light.
Truck is also not very popular with girls in skirts and high heels. Haha. |

it really astounds me that an entire thread can be made over the back to the future truck that you see for a total of maybe 10 mins in all movies combined. LOL.

But, I think more than anything, it was the impression that I was left with. Watching the movie as a child, that image of the shiny black truck really stuck with me, I guess. I'm a far cry from an avid hardcore offroad dude, but I guess I do get inspired easily when it comes to anything automotive. I built an old suzuki cafe racer after watching "the world's fastest indian", and finished off someone else's frame-off resto of a '66 datsun roadster after seeing ONE picture on the internet. I've gone through more cars than the number of years I've been alive... maybe I should see a shrink. |
