hi all!

any of you guys love to fish? just curious. i was raised on a tuna boat. lived with them and slept with them in the brine. gotta luv them! JUSTKIDDING

nawh, but i love to fish! i just recently started to get into fishing again. last year my friend made me a custom gloomis saltwater series pole. VERY NICE. i only paid for parts approx $180. then i bought a shimano calcutta 400. and i only used it ONCE last year! ACK!

now this year, im going 2x a week, if not once. ... off Long Beach Marina. so i wondered if anyone loved fishing too.

im even thinking of making my own rod this year. it doesnt seem tooooo hard. ive been doing lots of reading though. check out www.mudhole.com if neones interested.

i have fished all my life! fishing made for some of the best memories growing up in okla.

catfishing in farm ponds, trolling for stripers or sand bass, anchoring to catch a mess of crappie, or hitting the bank with plastic worms for large-mouths. when all else failed i even had fun perch-jerking. have also trout fished in missouri, arkansas, washington state & colorado (catch & release, of course).

sounds great!!! i love freshwater fishing too! i dont get to do much of it, i live so close to the beach.

but i love freshwater for the peacefulness. I go up north to yosemite area,... bass lake, silver lake, ....

once we found this small lake near yosemite, manzanita lake. quite, secluded lake... there was this sand bar that went out about 100ft into the lake, so you could stand up to your waist in ICE COLD WATER fishing for trout. i loved it. the water was like glass. no one around... just BEEEE UUUU TTIIIII FFULLL! sigh... so relaxing.

hey hey hey! Another fellow So. Cal. Fisherman! Is it that time again? I heard about the wide-open Sea Bass out by Catalina last week! I usually go off the 22nd St. Landing in San Pedro, but I'll go down to Long Beach with the Pops every now and then. Where are you at in Bellflower? I live in Long beach, but I'm always on Lakewood/Seal Beach. Let's plan a trip soon!

I actually have to work this weekend, what luck. I usually have them off, and as soon as the weather finally clears up, they call me in. What gives? With you going every week, it looks like we'll be meeting up real soon.

How often do you go wheel'n? I just got the truck a month ago, and have only been out twice!:pat: I've only been out as far as Moreno Valley/Lake Perris. Maybe we can plan a weekend, take the drive out to Santa Barbara, fish'n, wheel'n, what more could you ask for?:beach:

swAaEet! sounds like a plan to me. havent been wheeling for a while now. i used to go a lot, even just to the wetlands/oil fields in huntinton beach (illegal ) but my front diff is busted, a tooth broke... but i think it can still drive in 4wheel, havent tried it though. :T

yepyep...i try to go once a week ... its like escaping for me. get away from everythign, work, blah blah blah... just to get on the boat.. float away... and stand at the rail waiting for a bite! LOL

gotta love it! i skunked on the 3/4 before... now that suxed!

Joshik,

I used to fish quite a bit when I was in jr high and part of high school. Remember the Redondo Beach barge? Though it wasn't truly deep sea, the guys got to know us pretty well and would let us on for free and other times if we bought them a burger meal on the barge.

Last trip I took was in college when the baracuda were biting off Catalina Island in 1992. Since then, haven't been deep sea fishing.

If you go, PM me. I cannot do it this Saturday though. Never been twilight fishing but it sounds like a blast.

Hey, you coming to Pismo on Aug 8-10th? I believe you might be able to surf fish there. I can find out.

Freshwater fishing is like picking up chicks at an All-Girls school. It's a lot more fun when you're the one doing the running around in the Big Blue Pacific. I guess I just like the competition on the boats. The "Goin' Out!" or the "Goin' Over/Under".
And you gotta love the Rookies that don't know how to conter-act a real Ocean current. I love cut'n lines! Nothing beats over-head casting with an 8oz. weight on your line!
It's an experience you'll never forget I'll never go off the pier/barge/rocks again! Do you spend on average 30mins. just to reel a fish in? No way to explain it I guess?!?!

I'm surprised that I am the only one from the right coast to respond. I have it the best over here in MD. We have the rivers / lakes / ponds for freshwater, the Ches. Bay for everything (largest esturary in the world, freshwater near the river mouths / saltwater in the channels), and finnally the Atlantic Ocean with Ocean City MD being the White Marlin capitol of the world !! If any one want's a good time try fighting a 200 + lbs. marlin for an hour.
But who cares about Freshwater / Saltwater I fish where the fish are, and thats the whole point.

There are only 2 things in the world that smell like fish, and one of them you don't have to buy jewelry !!

You're right about fishing where the fish are. I've been to two lakes up north, but nothing comparable to the Michigan. Over time, I've just realized that Deep Sea was the way to go (for me) when living in So. Cal. I practically grew up on the Long Beach Pier, twice a week with the pops. Legend has it that I used to drink out of the bait bucket when I was still riding in the stroller!

To each, his own . . .

Caught this big boy Christmas 2001. 2nd largest caught that year in Kona, Hawaii. It was 64" long and weighed about 40 lbs.
