Why can't Toyota make a true 4X4 SUV in the low $20k like Nissan did? I bet it would be a big seller.

Just curious. You seem to be into xterras. has anyone done a solid axle swap on one yet? What axles are they using?

I actually saw that guy coming across the slabs (after Gate Keeper) last weekend. Everyone in my group made the comment "we *know* that Xterra wasn't on the 'con." Guess they were wrong.

No, nobody has done a SAS yet, but there are a couple people who are gathering parts.

There are some SAS frontiers though, so it shouldn't be too much of a leap. One guy used a D44 in the rear and a wagoneer front.

Here's a Xterra SAS thread.

And here's a Frontier SAS thread. (edit) ok the link in the link is dead, but there's still some info on axles for the Xterras.

One of the reasons I like XOC is that the northern CA guys are ALWAYS going wheeling. Paddlenbike is over on XOC and goes wheeling with them too.

Steve is exactly right--that group goes wheeling at least every-other weekend. I really like their mentality, they don't have attitudes about their vehicles, they just wheel them. For some reason the Toyota folks on these boards feel that solid axles are necessary in order to leave the pavement. They spend so much time tuning their vehicle(s) that they never leave their driveways. So I'll keep wheeling with the X guys...

Oh so true.
While solid axles are nice, IFS can do some pretty cool stuff too.
Take a look at some of Rob's pics from his WA state TTORA page.

There are may IFS rigs in there running very hard trails.
Here's some from some past Naches trail runs.

Rob should have some fresh ones up soon from the Naches trip from this past Saturday.
