disappointment

of the intense type:

with my not feeling well, and having been advised to eat soft foods for a few weeks, i endeavored to cook up some home made tapioca pudding. feeling ever so excited to eat it, i doubled the recipe.

so after careful and loving measurement, each ingredient entered the pot ready for a marathon of stirring. You see, pudding has to be heated on medium heat and stirred constantly until it boils. i had half a gallon of the stuff, therefore some considerable time would be put into this preparation. As the directions state: "pudding will thicken as it cools", you can see my anxiety to get this boiling done quick. i put a movie in to watch and positioned a stool by the stove and away my tapioca and i went... on our way to fulfillment and enjoyment: the tapioca serving my nutritional needs and i serving the tapioca by eating it as was it's design and purpose.

i didn't record the exact amount of time. i can say that the movie i watched was a concert and 4 songs played (each being about 8 minutes long). i'll leave the math to you. now this is true dedication to a meal, stirring without stop for 4 8 minute songs, while your pudding begins to bubble and giggle with delight at nearly being accomplished.

when the bubbles were a plenty i cut the heat and place the precious pan on a cooler surface. i went about some other business to ease my apprehension to assure the tapioca would be not too hot, but not too cool for my first dish.

the time came to dig in. a bowl that would rival Papa Bear's was selected and a generous amount filled it. with everything set i scooped a beautiful spoonful up and savored my first dip into the plethora of pudding waiting to please my pallet.

but wait.... something was not right. was the milk bad? no, that was not the cause for distaste. maybe the tapioca had been around too long, but no, i don't think it would spoil, or taste this horrible.

Oh... I know...

i mixed the sugar bowl up with the salt bowl....

all two-thirds c. of it.

now that, my friends, is disappointment.

-Nate

Blech...tapioca is disgusting salt or not

Just something about the texture.

For some reason, those disappointments are the worst disappointments aren't they?

Harsh Dude, that's gotta hurt. I had to go off of soft foods for about 5 days when I had my wisdom teeth out. I lost 5 pounds that week (which for me was a BAD think considering that was about 4% of my body wieght). Good luck on your recoverey. Next time, go with some Oatmeal and if you mix salt with sugar it will still be OK.

ok. i took the oatmeal advice and no tragedy to report.

i have this wicked cough now, but my fever is gone.

and home-made tapioca is wonderful, the store-bought stuff has little to offer as far as enjoyment goes.
