Crashing sucks...........

Just got back from the ER. My BMW Replika is now toast. Going for a early (spirited) a elderly lady made a left hand turn in front of me. I was only 2 miles away from home at 6am this morning.

Luckily my was wearing all my gear helmet, gloves, leathers. I am very lucky I only have a broken leg and a heavily bruised shoulder.

I am now going to enjoy the next few weeks off and hang out with my wife and son.

I now hope the insurance will total out the Replika quick enough to order another, this is supposidly the last year of the Replika.

a left hand turn in front of you-as in, a left turn from the right lane??? Jeez...Thats terrible... Im glad you werent more seriously injured... I seriously believe there needs to be more concrete legislation on elderly people driving...My grandmother is 77 and i REFUSE to ride with her anywhere...her ability to hear and see things around the house is evidence enough that she ought not be behind the wheel...She has had several fender benders where the only damage is scratches and paint scuffs and has also backed INTO her brick mailbox that is nowhere near the driveway...really about 5 feet to right and OVER the curb...I vote for yearly testing like they make you do when you first get your license... Sorry to hear about your bike and everything

She was in the left hand turn lane traveling east-bound and I was traveling in the center lane traveling west-bound. Indeed I consider myself a lucky boy. Now my wife wants me to get rid of all my bikes... Gee thanks nice old lady.

She said she didnt even see me....Nice....

I am sooo glad you are OK. Bones heal and bikes are replacable.
Damn old lady!!!
I promised my wife and myself to always ride with my leather. If it is too hot, then I won't ride. Being prepared pays off

Is her insurance taking care of everything???

Wait till one of the elderly just up and stops in front of you in preparation of making a turn, with the signal turned on and all, while you're out on the interstate !!

Yeah, the police already ruled her at fault. Luckily I was only going 35 in a 45 zone.

Hopefully my bike will get replaced soon.

My two worst bike accidents: Horse ran out in front of me at 60 miles per hour. I don't recall much after actually seeing him (it was just before dawn) until a couple of guys came along, we figured about 10-15 minutes later, and they found me walking in circles, helmet still on, picking up pieces of the bike, They grabbed me and said I'd been in an accident and had to lay down. I said "OK" and passed out. Ambulance gets there and what's the first thing they do? Cut all my clothes off with scissors. Brand new snowmobile suit, new chaps, new leather jacket, new gloves, new pants...all gone in a snip. ANd of course, it being the monday before Thanksgiving, it's like 35 dgrees F outside...BRRRRRR!!!! I did get a little payback tho...I thought I was going to die, from the way the were acting, so all the way into town (about an hour's ride) I was trying to cop a feel on the female attendant. I figured I was on teh way out, so why not? Results: Broken foot, broken hand, lost an eye, lots of road rash, bike (a 78 Kawasaki Police 1100 Special) : Totaled. I did manage to sell it to a guy who had one just like it, but who'd blown his engine (not easy in one of those!). His fiberglass and metal were all good, and my engine, except the outer plugs was fine so...

Second: Just turned left onto a 4 lane with center turn lane, when the little ol lady in the ancient station wagon about to turn right changed her mind, and swung left, you guessed it, right out in front of me. I was only going 25 or so, and I got it layed down, but when I hit her it stood right back up again and up and over I went. "Look ma, I can fly!" And "Oh crud, this is going to hurt " as I looked down...Landed, on my face (thank you Bell Helmets!), bounced once, landed again on my face. I guess I tried to put my right arm out to break my fall, but the arm broke instead, and into lots of little pieces. Lucky for me it was right at 4:12PM, shift change for the local PD, and a bunch of them were in the Baskin Robbin's she'd pulled out of. Of course, the main PD station is right across the street too. I guess about 20 officers saw what happened and were there in seconds. I was trying to get up, but my arm didn't work and I couldn't figure out why...until one of the cops grabbed my helmet and MADE me lay down...that's when the pain arrived, finally. I started swearing in every language I know, and a few I don't...what'd she say? "I can't get out..(whine)" I was screaming to let me up so I could kill her, and a few from the pain thrown in for good measure, the cops are holding me down and frantically searching for my gun, and the LOL finally get's pried out of her car. She comes over and tells me she needs my insurance info...I redoubled my efforts to get up and kill her...If the cops hadn't been all over me, I honestly think I would have committed Old lady-cide on the spot. The cop holding my head finally told her to get the hell away before I finally DID manage to get away from them. She got all huffy and wandered aimlessly off...Ambulance arrives, and as usual, cuts all my clothes off...again! I hate that. ANyway, I wound up having to take her to court. She tried to say it was my fault. I was speeding. Going 25 in a 35 zone...yeah. When we got to the pretrial hearing and had to write out statements, i ran down what I remembered, as clearly and objectively as I could, while she spent 4 paragraphs, I mean literally 4 paragraphs, complaining about my swearing at her. The judge, a former Marine too (snicker), took one look at the two statements, and told her lawyers, point blank that they were going to loose this one, and they really needed to settle out of court. They did. Thank you, senility! Results: A BADLY broken arm, another broken foot, the bike (a very nice 80 Yamaha Virago V-Twin 1000) totaled.
I have quit riding. I began to think someone was trying to tell me something...

Update:

Cast removed leg looks better, the rods inside are staying for a while. No strength at all. I cant stand unaided long at all. I guess that will go away after a while.

Now its off to fight the insurance companies. The old ladie's insurance has been lax on paying so my insurance company paid up. Very cool! But now my insurance wants me to do a depostion so we can sue her's. Nasty.

Saturday morning is my first ride on my new Replika Boxer Cup. Good thing the racing season is over, I have 6 months to get the new ride ready for Road America.

quite the saga there! glad to hear things are finally coming to a close for you on this chapter of your life. i would love to get another bike, nothing beats the feeling of freedom while riding. someday, but according to my wife, it has to have a sidecar for her!

ill have to talk to olharleyman and see what he can cobble together for me!

It wasn't that much of a fight. Their insurance was fighting everything. Luckily my insurance came through and took care of everything. I had to go to a couple of depositions.

Got a nice settlement after everything was done. After everything was done I just wish never went for that ride.
