Is toyota really someone to be pointing "evolution" fingers? Toyota goes in 5 year blocks(ish) without changing, and didn't change their running gear from 86 to 95.

There's only so much you can do with a box on wheels before it gets so rediculously ugly no one will buy it.

think he is a ford fan? If i didnt have a toyota i would have a chevy.. but i agree they havent changed much in the past few years. Granted the F250 hasnt either... except the Grizzwald family truckster head lights that are new this year. It has worked for chevy for so long i guess they are afraid to let it go

Chevy, Ford and Dodge trucks are just fine in terms of evolution. It's really say however that the big three have tried to rely on trucks to keep them in business. If anyone is not evolving or could be considered going in the wrong direction it could be both Toyota and Nissan. The Titan and the Tundra are great, but both companies smaller trucks are now so huge they are not even worth buying in my book.

I would sooner buy a used 1500 GMC than a new Tacoma

Don't have the slightest idea what you are saying.. (please explain further), but... I think I agree with you.

On the other hand, I think NOT changing what works... improving on what you have, making big changes only when clear improvement is necessary... design continuity, maintaining quaility with careful testing before releasing anything new... those are the keys to gaining market share.

As opposed to "the look", and depending on advertising to create interest.

It is a Ford fan that made the vid and I see his perspective since Chevy does stay more conservative with their trucks vs alot of other companies. The vid is showing more the lack of exterior design and not the underpinnings.

I have to agree. Toyota made the mistake of letting western influence sway them into upscaling.

I would like to think they will eventually smarten up and create another small truck.

the creator of that video is extremely biased in my opinion. sure there are RESEMBLANCES from the 80s until now, but the creator did not ever comment on the grill style changing or the headlights changing after the late 90s. i notice significant differences in grills and headlights between 98 and 99, and even moreso between 2002 and 2003 and then the lights/grill change completely from 2006 to 2007...why didnt he comment on those in the video? those changes just disprove his point, and we cant have that, otherwise theres no point in making the video! the interior has been working for them and theres only so much change you can do short of removing the center console. steering wheels are always round...why would they change that? gauges are always above the steering wheel/column...why would they change that? unless its a front bench seat or a minivan, theres always a center console between the two seats...why would they change that? if you ask me, the creator is just desperate for things to look for since he loves his ford.

im still toyota all the way

Funny he never mentioned the infamous 6.0L PowerStroke that almost put Ford under way before the big three all started hitting bankruptcy...

Imho, let each company do what they do best...

Imports - Small/Mid sized trucks
GM - Mid-Full Size Trucks
Ford - Full/Giant Size trucks

Dodge has the (diesel) engine but thats about it...

You can't disprove someone's point if it's based on his opinion;I see both sides but I do agree Chevy has had kinda boring conservative designs compared to the others.

True, and if you do stick to a conservative approach(especially one that works), you avoid abominations like Ford new Super Duty front end...those lights are hideous.

Lets not forget the old saying....
"if it aint broke, don't fix it"

Modern carmakers strive to make each vehicle more advanced and more more more, better better better, which is good. But there is something to be said for simplicity every now and then. I'm not saying evolution/progression are a bad thing, but one of these days we are going to ask ourselves... do we really need 5738982 computers in a vehicle?

Tangent as usual...

I gotta say..

I like Ford F250's and bigger. They look good for Full size work horses. And I drive a 250 with the 5.4(?) V8 to haul a whole lotta paint around.. never had a problem with it. We did have a tie rod end break once, but thats it.

I never was too fond of Chevy's trucks.

Whoever commented on Toyota's upscaling problem, I agree 100%.
I was parking my 2nd gen 4runner at the Community College yesterday and I saw a brand new Taco sitting one row over. Good lord, it sits higher, and is much bigger than my Lil 4runner, and for what? Why does it need to be bigger? Tacos are supposed to be light trucks, not fullsize.

That was pretty bad, especially considering that the 1980-1997 F-series recieved only cosmetic changes on the front end and interior restylings. For the most part everything under the sheetmetal never changed.
