chevy 350 van, engine light question, help please

Full size 92 chevy van with the 350 in it. Starts up fine, drop it into grear and it stalls when you press the gas. In reverse it's fine, in park it's fine. Only happens when the engine light is on and the light comes and goes. Dealer said there's no codes saved due to it's age.
I can't let the wife drive it alone for it could leave her stranded. I can't reproduce the issue on demand, it just happens, three times in the last two weeks.
Anyone have an idea of what to check. The battery is good and connections to the computer under the pass. seat on good.

I might have to sell it which is bad for it's in beautiful shape inside and out, with low miles but has this issue.

Thanks

Check the repair manual. I just looked it up at autozone.com and it tells how to check the codes for your van. www.autozone.com has free online repair manuals if you do not already have one. You might have to wait until the problem happens to check the codes, but that is probably better than selling the van.
