CEL, VSC and TRAC on 4th gen

Hi All,

Just recently had a wierd problem. All three fail lights came on. The 3 codes I pulled were all to do with emissions and vacum pressure being lost. I wasn't sure whether it was the gas cap, so I re-seated the gas cap and cleared the codes. The lights came on again. This time I filled the tank, cleared the codes and made sure the cap was tight.

All the lights came on again. Taking it to the dealer, they said that they had no idea what it was, and that checking each of the parts in turn, they could find no hoses, cracks or seals that were bad or loosing pressure. In the end the only thing that they could think of was one of the valves being gummed up near the fuel filter. They ordered a new part, replaced it and so far so good.

Anyone have any ideas what happened? I don't think that cheap gas would cause this, and there shouldn't be any sludge in the bottom of the tank after only 15k!

Mark

Mark:

I had a evap code problem back about 8 months ago. The code was spitting out the similar code as you discuss (P0442). Check to see if this is the same code. If it is, I know exactly what part that needs to be replaced. My problem was a bad valve by the TB connected to the TB sensor.

It took the dealer 3 attempts to find this problem as they couldn't figure out where it was coming from. (same emissions stuff).

Anyway good luck and let me know more on what code it's spitting out!

Hi Lance,

Can't remember the codes off hand, but P0442 rings a bell. I just talked to the dealer and they told me that they suspected and replaced the TCV valve and canister and also the VSV valve. It seems to have solve the light issues, but I need to run a couple hundred miles more to be sure.

Yeah just run it a few hundred miles to make sure everything is cool. After I had them replace my sensor everything was fine

Hope all works out well!
