Can someone explain this fish?

I know who Darwin is and all, but what's the deal with the fish all over?

I see them in YT members SIG's, and on cars.

I see just the fish
A fish with a cross for an eye
A shark that looks like the fish - I want one of these, looks cool
the fish that says DARWIN inside
the fish with feet upside down

What's the deal?
Do they have different meanings? Like the shark specifically.

This is a new one maybe?

Jesus has asked His followers (Christians) to be fishers of men. So the fish is a proud symbol of who we are.

The five Greek letters of the word ixthus form an acrostic with which Christians of that day were familiar. The first Greek letter represented the word "Jesus", the second letter "Christ". The next two letters represented "God Son", and the last letter represented the word "Savior". Thus, IXTHUS = Jesus Christ is God's Son, the Savior.

I c h t h u s (Fish)
The fish was an early symbol of Christianity, since the Greek word for fish, ichthus, is an acronym (the first letter of each word) for the Greek phrase Iesous Christos Theou Huios Soter, which means "Jesus Christ, of God the
Son, Savior." It is written as graffiti, and was used as a secret password when Christians were being persecuted by the Romans.

Most of the "fish" on the cars are just personal vanity...just another type of bumper sticker IMO that means very little in reality.

I knew is was a Christian symbol but always wondered why they would put Darwin in there since it's like an oxymoron.

I still like the shark.

I was beginning to think it was liek a cult or something. Like those who have it knew something more. Oh well. Thanks

More than a few YT'ers have it too. A YT cult is forming. Can I join?

the darwin thing is from people that believe in evolution. Its actually quite disrepectful to people that dont believe in that. The fish is religious putting Darwin in it is bastphomy....

Same goes for UFO and other stupid crap....

Could it possible they believe in both maybe?
It's nice to have someone to turn to, but also makes sense to believe in evolution?

i guess you COULD. But its blastphomis to believe in two religions in most reglions, including christian. pretty much you are christian or you believe in something else.

So actually I think its mostly people showing there rebellion towards God creation.

I mean why would you even care if anyone else knew you believed in evolution? Theres no evolution god, when you die you rot in the ground, end of story.

Everyone I've talked to about the Darwin thing has NO idea what the hell they are talking about. I dont judge people, but its quite frustrating trying to make sense of the nonsense they speak. I'm not talking about all of them, I'm sure there is alot of people out there that do know what they are talking about, but usually those people dont sport a Darwin tag since they no there is no point.

The Darwin "fish" is just poking fun and I've never heard of any Christians comment about it being disrespectful. If people are offended by that then they are extrememly uptight.

It offends me and im FAR from being uptight.
CynicX said it well: "The fish is religious, putting Darwin in it is blasphemy...."

I can understand how people would like the Darwin fish - really it is rather clever. On the other hand, it *is* disrespectful. I would equivalize it to someone taking a picture of your wife/girlfriend and using photoshop to doll it up so it makes them look like a pornstar. May be funny and clever to them but it is far from classy.

Evolution does have its merits. In my opinion you'd have to be a fairly large fool to deny that on some level evolution does not work. At the same time there are other parts of evolution that are very hard to swallow.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the very popular evolution case of the moths in Europe that had changed their camouflage from snowy white to soot black being somewhat of a blunder. Something about all those moths being photographed on trees actually being glued on - I guess they're claiming that the moths never spend that much time on the trees?

Anyhow - evolution is a debate that wasn't part of the original post so I'll kill this before it gets started.

Here's a nice and simple emblem, a T-Rex eating a fish. Now, if only religion could go the way of the dinosaur.

Who is to say who is right and who is wrong?

I had an old friends pops try to convert me to something else.

I say: Don't get worked up about it, let the man upstairs decide, and the rest can rot in hell.
