Buffer/waxer ???

I know the Corey-cable is the best one out there, but I don't think I want to spend that much to just buff out my dad's truck. Any cheaper alternatives that are halfway desent?

(Dads truck has some paint damage and I want to clean it up before I give it back to him. He loaned it to me when my car was totalled out) I think it is stained by the pine tree pollen that fell this spring.

David,

How's it going? Can you better define "paint damage?" B/c even if you get the infamous Corey cable, it might not be the cure for the type of paint damage your dad has on his truck. I have used (and have) the Corey Cable/method as well as Zainos. I'm very sold on Zainos but I'll hold my advice until i know more about your dad's truck.

My questions are:

1) Age of truck
2) Clear coat?
3) Type of damage- tree sap, oxidation, loss of paint (patches), scrapes, spiders, etc
4) Last time polished/waxed
5) Color

If you could answer these questions, I could help you too. Maybe even b/f Corey gives his Griot's schpeel too!

Edit: David, just ask Corey to come over and be done with it! Just tell him you're a total skeptic and he'll do a live demo for ya.

Bob

It seems like the paint has been stained (I think by pine pollen). It has a rough texture to it. I used Turtle wax rubbing compund (heavy duty) and it didn't seem to cut it. Guy at NAPA tried some deep cut Maguires (by hand) and it seemed to do some good (but it is for a machine use). My arms feel like they are going to fall off!!

Specs:
1986 Ford Ranger Turbo diesel
Red, solid color, no clear coat
Paint was oxidized before I used it. Rubbing compunds removed the oxidation, but now it looks like shiny dirt (the discolor almost has like an oxidized aluminum look to it. It is also only on the horozontal surfaces.
I was looking at a B+D polisher (6" single speed, 1/2 amp) at the outlet mall, but was not thrilled looking at it

David,

FYI: I bought the Porter Cable from Lowes for $107 and it was free shipping.

Sounds like you need to clay it, polish it then wax it... I just got the Corey Cable @ HD for $109. Can't wait to break it in...
