boy has high school changed since i was there

man, in high school, i used to get in trouble for talking with friends and not doing my hw.

my co-worker today told me about how her son got a $380 fine for sagging. omg! ok i kno saggin is a illegal for the fashion police but dang, $380? wtf is that? and the mom had to go to the police station and to court for this whole thing! she told the judge that she didnt have the money for this so he let it go with a warning... and now school called the mom and tol her she needed to send his son to "behavior class" or something coz the son would wear his hood on his jacket in class.

i also hear on the news that kids at Whittier HS are getting fined like $180 for being tardy!

wats this world coming to?

My school doesn't even care if you're late or not, if you skip class or anything like that. My family and I would have been broke if I went to that school.

As far as I know it started with the gangster punks. Seems like the gangsters wouldn't want to slow down their getaway in any way. Now it has spread to other groups like the skaters. Having pants down around your ankles while skating, yeah, that's smart.

Back in grade 9-10, I was in the whole baggy "thug" look. I had the completely shaved head, jewellry,baggy clothing and attitude. Now I am in grade 12, my wardrobe did a complete 180, I am dressing more appropriate and better. The only thing that hasn't changed was my jewellry, but my necklace and bracelet is not 1in thick or anything like that, its flashy but with class. Whenever I look at at some kid with the "thug" get up, I think to myself, why do these kids want to look criminals or off that they are the streets? Most of these kids have 250k+ houses and they're trying to hardcore in a city where it has like 3 murders a year. These kids might think there hardcore, but I know even with they way I dress now, I can put them in their place. The neighbourhood I live in, there is barely any crimes, you might hear common problems in a city but not the point where you have to be in a gang to be safe or watch your back when you're walking the streets. In the summer, I left my side door completely wide open more than once while I was sleeping. My neighbour sleeps in his backyard while all the doors are open during the summer.

Man I'm glad I got out of school when I did. Just this year they make every student to wear an ID card. I understand the whole security issue, but come on. I have a few friends that are seinors this year, and they said that if you forget it too much, you get detention. It's just a bunch of crap what they have now-a-days. It's getting worse with all the standardized tests, and that damned WASL. I'm sure that all of you guys in Washington have heard about that load of crap. Well, I'm done ranting for now.

Zero tolerance is a double edged-sword.

There's a lot of stuff - some not as much - that you see in schools, where if something happened and you looked back you'd be thinking, "why didn't that raise any eyebrows?"

Some kid in San Diego recently got suspended because he drew a picture of a soldier shooting someone. That seems kind of "iffy" but if the kid where to bring a gun to school and go nuts then everyone and their moms would be all over that.

A local board member of the school district was asked to resign because in an e-mail she jokingly stated that some people should be "shot" because they were being so obnoxious in a meeting or something.

It's a crazy world and nobody wants to get in trouble because they didn't have rules when someone else went crazy.

Im a computer tech with the local school system here. Guess what the kids are doing with the computers now? Downloading porn videos and snipits and burning them on to cds. How did they get by our security lockdowns? I dont know yet. Anyway, i always laugh when I see a kid try to run or walk fast with one hand holding his drawers up.

Well, I have a wife who is a public high school teacher, and a damn good one at that, she actually cares about her students and pushes them to learn, calls the parents, has parent conferences, etc, but the crap she has to put up with from a discipline standpoint is ridiculous.

Two months ago she sent some thug to the office for cursing her and after school he threatened to beat her ass to her face. Now his sorry ass is at boot camp for repeat offenders. Like some thug who has a rap sheet as long as my arm already should still have the right to attend public high school!

To make a long story short, our public schools are a prime example of the fact that as we have become more civlized in our society we have become much less civil. Personal freedoms have now become more important that the freedoms of the majority and it only gets worse everyday. I'm not talking about anarchy here, I'm just talking about common courtesy and decency. It is LUDICROUS that public schools must have metal detectors and on duty police officers on campus all day everyday.

Everyday when my wife comes home I hear stories from my wife from that day where high schoolers are still acting like my 3 year old does when he pitches a fit and yells "mine!" Forget this time out crap shrinks suggest, take the time out to whip that ass and teach them some respect!!!!

Ticks me off so bad I don't even remember what the hell this thread is about anyway!

Two thumbs up for any teacher who puts up with the crap that we all know they do. Im only 21 but younger people are just going crazy. Even people older than me still act like they are 5. No one respects anybody. Its all about them and what they want. Thats the main reason I had very few freinds in high school they were all a bunch of 2 year olds. I blame the parents for alot of it. For example...me and the g/f were at the movies a couple weeks ago. There were a couple kids prolly 10 to 12 sittin a couple seats down from us. As soon as the lights went down they started wingin' candy across the theater. GRRR! Its not like only a couple peices either they were still doing it about half-way through the movie. Then I thought to myself what if that was me getting hit...So I get up out of my chair walk down in between the two of them. And give them a peice of my mind!!

About 5 minutes later they get up and leave lol (I think they had to go check their undies) Thats just two kids with parents that dont teach them how to act responsibly and their own age. Alright Im done ranting now
