better than pimp my ride, please read
read this story, pretty cool
this kid hangs out @ one of our shops and became sick, great kid who loves to wheel so we decided to help him out by overhaulin his truck. everything was donated and our crew along with his friends and family donated there time to help. we stripped it down to the cab complete, painted it, installed a custom dash, seats, new engine from toyota, beadlock wheels and new tires, custom front bumper, new removable pinned doors, new fenders cut out for clearance than added flares. custom in cab cooler with drain. the list goes on and on. all this in 5 weeks after hours , his dad told him he took it to his friends house because he couldn't afford insurance on it. we gave it to him on sunday at a car show. best thing i've ever seen. there's a story below than a link to pictures. ************************************ Two months ago, Centennial High School senior Jason Veal was a normal 18-year-old, looking forward to graduation and enjoying his hobbies, motorcycling and four-wheeling. One day he noticed red spots covering his body. Assuming his son had a rash, Alan Veal took Jason to the doctor, who wasted no time in rushing him to the hospital for a blood transfusion. With 24 hours, Jason learned that he had aplastic anemia, a life-threatening bone marrow disease in which the bone marrow stops making enough blood cells. The red spots Jason thought were a rash were actually his blood vessels beginning to burst because his platelet count was so low. Since then, he and his father have learned the unimaginable — the rare disease, which only affects 1,000 new patients a year — will kill him unless he receives a bone-marrow transplant. The disease has been particularly aggressive in Jason’s case. “The doctors can’t believe his body shut down so fast,” Alan said. Luckily for the Veals, and thanks to the American Red Cross national bone-marrow-donor program, Jason has a donor. It only took three weeks to find a match. Anyone can donate bone marrow, and the procedure is much easier now than it used to be. According to Red Cross policy, the donor’s identity cannot be revealed until one year after the transplant. Many in the Gresham area know the Veals. Alan is a single father who raised Christina, a 2000 Centennial graduate, and Jason. Alan coached wrestling for 10 years, little league and is currently an assistant coach for the Centennial girls softball team. Jason attended Pleasant Valley Elementary School and Centennial Middle School. Alan said 300 people got tested to see if they were a match for Jason when they heard of his illness. “There are millions of wonderful people in this community,” Alan said. “I’m finding that out.” Jason has a donor, but that’s just the beginning of his battle. He will have to undergo three months of drug therapy to prepare for the transplant, which will take place in three months. Meanwhile, Alan, a self-employed contractor, can’t work because he has to take care of his son. His insurance will only cover 80 percent of the transplant, which seems adequate until you find out the transplant has a price tag of $1 million. That leaves Alan with a $200,000 bill and that doesn’t include the $25,000 he’ll have to come up with to pay for Jason’s anti-rejection drugs following the procedure. Students at Centennial are rallying around Jason’s cause. Proceeds from their student store are going into an account set up in Jason’s name at US Bank. The account is under “Jason A. Veal.” In the metals shop, Jason’s favorite class, his peers are creating yard art out of metal and selling the ornaments to benefit Jason. Alan Veal is doing everything he can to get the word out about his son. He’s contacted several local radio show hosts and he’s working with several local businesses to help with the donation drive. So far, Alan said he’s been overwhelmed with the response. “The whole community is just coming out to help,” he said http://www.photoshow.net/scripts_mai...show=jDWqhlDqe

If everyone would do something like that everyday then America would be so much better. It's stories like this that inspires people. Thanks for sharing.
edit: I saw the truck itself... that is nice looking truck too! My thoughts go to him.

so very very cool. Ya'll are some good people, and just watching that reminds me to help make a difference too. You guys did something really special for that kid, and the feeling he got from seeing that truck and seeing how many people care will help him fight to beat this illness.
good work! so much cooler than pimp my ride, and the finished product looks amazing.

When young men get diagnosed with serious illnesses, it takes a toll on the old ego, I know all about it. Fixing up his truck was probably the coolest thing this young man has seen in a while, probly gives him a little ego boost around the ladies! The truck looks awesome! Keep in mind, long after the press and fanfair is over, this young man will remember that truck and the events around for the rest of his days. You all should feel proud for putting up a light up in what I'm sure was a long, dark tunnel. Good Work!

wow thats really great.....This also shows how important it is to have good medical plans...He will owe 200,000 for the operation then 25,000 for anti rejection drugs THEN a round the clock nurse for 100 days....I really hope everything works out for him....
