B2 bomber over Los Angeles!

Hey guys,

I was returning from two meetings this morning and i was on the 710/10East transition. I was dozing off and then i see this slit in the air get increasingly larger in a fraction of a second. That unmistakable shape---yeah, it was a B2 bomber! Wow, everyone just hit the brakes and i could see everyone pointing around me. If you're an aviation buff like me, its a once in a lifetime thing to see. I have NO idea why its flying over the San Gabriel Valley, but apparently, it is doing racetrack loops from the 710/10 to the 10/605 and all the way up to the 210 it seems.

So i was driving 10East and then i see this coming from behind me. And when it passed over, everyone hit their brakes to slow down and admire this awesome flying machine. Makes you feel proud that our country has the smarts and capability to build such a great plane.

My highlight of the day

Bob

Wow, a B2! Those things are awesome! I sure would like to see one of those. I've seen a B1 once flying over with a F117 off each wingtip, and I saw an SR-71 in a museum, but never a B2. You're lucky!

Awesome plane.

speaking of museums...if you are ever in the Northern VA area, be sure to check out the Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA

i work on the left edge, (earthcity) boeing builds military jets at the right edge....

its super cool to see them take off and land, and do fly overs. Ive seen a couple take off from the airport and go vertical almost imedatly in full afterburn.

VERY COOL

we also have Scott airforce base about 15 miles east of STL were i live. So ive seen a couple of the cool planes that are stationed there fly over.

Awesome. How low was it?

On a desolate stretch of highway 395, I had a B52 come from behind and cross the road 200 yards in front of me. it was at a full right bank about 200 ft off the ground. It scared the hell outta me. At first glance, I thought it was an airliner going down.

I did a detachment to a Airforce base that I won't disclose, but it was cool seeing them come out of their secret hanger already turning, and going back into their secret hanger still turning. (turning as in engines on) Man are they loud taking off. Not as loud as a EA-6B that I work on though.

a couple summers ago i was driving on i-90 through eastern washington, i saw something off to my right at about 2 o'clock, it was a plane of some sort. i quickly relized it was a fighter jet (F15 F16 ?) he dropped down low, did 1/2 a barral roll and flew over the highway upside down, LOW to the ground so low i could easily look up into the cockput and see him and whatnot. after crossing the highway he completed the roll and hit the throttle and went shooting stright up. it was the coolest thing i've ever seen. once in a life time thing wiht the timeing cuz he went over me at with the right timeing that i could look up through my windsheild to see into the cockpit.

Sweet Bob! I've only seen a B2 flying once, when we lived in CO (near the Air Force Academy). But man, those are cool planes to see in the air.

B2 Bomber

Hey Bob...I saw it too when I was off to get lunch around 12:50. I was heading north on Valley Blvd. just before the 605 freeway when I spotted that flying pretty low. I thought I was seeing things but when it made a sharp turn you can see the unmistakable shape of a b2 bomber. It was just amazing seeing that fly by.

im not sure how low it was, but you could see the cockpit glass. it was really, really amazing to see it flying over one of the busiest freeways in LA.

I got to watch the SR 71 Blackbird do touch and goes for several hours one summer day when we were visiting my grandma in Chico, CA. She lives north of town and to the west of her is an airfield that regularly has fire planes in and out, but the Blackbird was a real surprise. Watched it do its' thing around 10 times.

I'll second what Matt said-there is nothing like seeing the B-29 Enola Gay, an SR-71 Blackbird, the Concord, and a Space Shuttle all under one roof. Not to mention all the other cool things they have there...the list could go on and on.
As well as the IMAX movies.

Funny... UCSD is right next to Miramar (where Top Gun used to be) and we have fighter jets soaring over so often I've forgotten what kind of a sight they can be! These things are LOUD - I can't tell you how many times I've been in the food court and the conversation will just stop while these things fly over.

I can't tell if you are joking or not Bob, but that I caught that either way. We are looking forward to tonight's episode. In fact, it's the highlight of our Mondays!

That B2 must have been awesome to see. I love aviation.

Bob, I saw the B2 up pretty close about 10 years ago down at Alki Beach in West Seattle.

It caused quite a traffic jam down there as it flew overhead real slow & low.

We get the Blue Angels flying real low too when they are practicing for the SeaFair in August.

The old B 17 plane in my sig file below I got to watch them daily restore it in the wing building, mainly Boeing retirees and some who flew them during the war.

I snagged that picture on one of my runs a year or so before I got laid off long ago.

Yeah baby, the forked tail devil, as the germans called it. i saw one in person at an airshow in san diego. my fav WWII fighter is the focke wulf 190. the lines on that plane and that massive engine...i wonder how much longer the war would have gone on had germany not lost its top corp of fighter pilots and aircraft production facilities

sounds like there are some airplane buffs on the forum. perhaps a yotatech/airshow meeting is in order?

I love airplanes. I really like the F-22 also. Heh heh... it would be cool to have old and new. We should do an airshow... who has the write-up for F4U wings on a 2nd Gen 4Runner

Everyone, the B2 was doing a flyover for today's opening day game at Dodger Stadium. The crappy Dodgers spend all that money and they lose 10-11 against the Braves. What a wonderful way to start the season!

I had classes on Barksdale AFB in Shreveport, LA a few years ago. I loved watching the B52's running their routines while walking to class. They fly every day over there.
