Another taser incident

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5h...RU2Clj0dIgUOww

Quote:
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) ? A university student with a history of taping his own practical jokes was Tasered by campus police and arrested after loudly and repeatedly trying to ask U.S. Sen. John Kerry questions during a campus forum.

Andrew Meyer, 21, spent a night in jail before his release from jail Tuesday morning on his own recognizance. He had no comment when he left. His attorney, Robert Griscti, did not return messages seeking comment.

Videos of the Monday night incident, posted on several Web sites and played repeatedly on television news, show University of Florida police officers pulling Meyer away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University.

University spokesman Steve Orlando said Meyer was asked to leave the microphone after his allotted time was up. Meyer can be seen refusing to walk away and getting upset that the microphone was cut off.

As two officers take Meyer by the arms, Kerry, D-Mass., can be heard saying, "That's all right, let me answer his question."

I'm trying to figure out what the applause was for. Look how many cops it took to remove him. That's sad. It speaks volumes that they had to resort to tasering with that many cops standing around.

Maybe I wasn't awake this morning when they showed it on the news but it looks like the kid wouldn't shut up and was causing a disruption to me. Once they tried to remove him he resisted and was tazed. I think he got what was coming to him. The right to free speech is not the right to be an a-hole in my opinion.

perhaps, but Kerry was in control of the conversation and if it was truly disruptive he could have told them to end it. instead he was trying to tell the cops that there was no need to gag him yet, he was willing to answer the questions. in a way by making such a scene they didn't give Kerry a chance to defend himself. but you can hear him trying to defend himself while they are busy trying to subdue an unarmed man lol

it still makes me laugh how many of those cops it took to take him away. heaven forbid they ever have to deal with a meth addict, it might take their entire department!

I hear ya, seeing that does not make me feel very confident about some of our law enforcement officials

Now I did not follow this story too closely and I do agree that our personal rights/freedoms are being constrained more and more but I just get tired of these people who use the right to free speech, etc as a means to get attention.

If that happened at UC Berkely, and if it was John McCain that was speaking, and some kid got out of line, they most certainly wouldn't have tazered him. They probably would have given the kid a standing ovation, and convinced him to join the red army.

He's just a typical college student with a desire to surround himself with attention. He thought it was funny to ask these off the wall questions. They weren't bad, just off the wall and not normal for the venue.

I think these speeches are usually more refrained and proper, to have a kid ask the question as if he was yelling at his football pep rally was annoying to the others, thats maybe why they started applauding.

Its sad because, he could have not stood for his rights, and been taken away quietly, and probably been just put outside. Rather, he fought back and then got into real trouble. The premise of the arrest of the cops was BS... "Starting a riot."

Lastly, this guy is just a stupid showmen. I don't really care. He was obviously doing this to get on TV or bring attention to himself. Give me a break. He's just a 21 year old idiot.
