I have glasses too ... even when my prescription stays the same if I get new frames, even that will change my depth perception! Sometimes at first it'll feel like you're on a boat.
But anyway, I would say that is absolutely normal - I've talked to many people who, when they get glasses, have the same experience. Slowly though, if you wear your glasses, you'll get used to it, and things will get back to normal. It just takes a little while for your eyes to get used to the change, but once they do you won't have any problems with your depth perception or anything.

have you thought about contacts, i wore glasses through most of grade school and middle school, then i went and tried contacts, huge difference, they took a little time to get the feel to put them on your eye, but were worth it, they also take away most of that depth perception feeling your talking about, i havent wore glasses in a few years now, i cant even remember where they are

Doc: Please read the smallest line that you can see on the eyechart?
Me: What eyechart? My vision was like 20/450, but $3800 later and LASIK eye surgery my vision is 20/15, better than what is considered normal. I wore glasses from 3rd grade to 8th grade until I got contacts and I wore contacts for the better part of 20 years. No more junk to lose, break, clean, worry about, my vision is AWESOME. It sounds like your vision is like mine, forget glasses and contacts, look into LASIK. You'll never get the same vision corrected with lenses or contacts, especially perception, as you do with good "uncorrrected" vision, or with LASIK. Best $3800 I ever spent in my lift. I'd do it again in a heartbeat and spend twice that much to be able to see like I see now. Good luck!

research Lasik first .. they have some great new upgraded equipment and techniques. They even lowered the prices, and will finiance it for you. Its a really cool procedure to watch, takes about 5 min per eye. Most places will let you watch from behind a window, and they have monitors up as well.
But the risks are there, make sure your aware of them before you go in. I went in for a consultation on laser surgery, but decided against it. Its great for some, but its definitely not for everyone.

and remember, Lasik is a relatively new procedure, so there are a lot of things they don't yet know about long-term issues. just research research research before you go.

you want to hear the cool way they found out about lasik surgery ... it was in Russia (about 30-40 yrs ago), this kid with glasses was playing, and got hit in the face, and pieces of the glass landed in his eye, scratching it. after the pieces were removed, he could see better. No need for the glasses anymore, and from there they've made the procedure a bit less crude then getting smashed in the face to correct your vision. pretty cool, huh?

Contacts are still down the road, remember this is my first pair of glasses. But thank's for the idea. Lasik or whatever is...can wait, I have no money for something like that.

I didn't just go out and get my eyes cut on on a whim. I did my homework and the guy who lasered my eyes was from Emory Hospital in Atlanta and is one of the frontrunners in LASIK research. He has done more eyes than just about anybody in the country and frequently goes over seas and does it for free in clinics.
Yes, when I get older my eyes are going to get older just like yours and I'll probably need glasses to see and/or to read. So does about 95% of the senior adult population. All I know is that now I wake up in the morning and can turn over and actually see my wife's face and the alarm clock and my children's faces in the middle of the night without first having to put on my glasses or put in my contacts. I feel more than comfortable with my decision as I don't think it would be an approved procedure if it were a possibility for massive lawsuits on down the road. Research LASIK and learn of the pros and cons. All I know is I once was blind and now I see.

Hey Brian,
I've heard all sorts of rumors about flying having some affect on the eyes. Is that true? I wouldn't think you'd just jump right into it, it's more of my paranoid nature to be suspect of a procedure that involves that kind of change

My eyes were so dry for about a month I bet I used 20 gallons of eye moisture drops! ![]() Driving at night was kinda funky for about 60 days, kinda got the halo effect from headlights and street lights etc., but it went away. I'd never been able to see on my own with my own eyes before so I don't know if anything abnormal happened, but it has been almost 5 years now and I AM VERY PLEASED!!!! If you are weird about things poking in your eye and get queasy at being awake durinig a surgery, then you should think about not doing this one. Doesn't hurt, just kinda weird, but after wearing contacts 20 years it was no big deal.

Aaahhh...glasses really mess with you. I just got them today and you guys are right you can adapt to them as far as perception, but I just took them off, and the world is so freakin wierd, as if almost I almost feel dizzy from not wearing them (sort of speak).
Just call me now four eyes

Have you ever tried glasses with a lower prescription? I know that when I have on glasses with a higher prescription than I need I get that messed up depth perception. Wore glasses for about four years and each year my eyes got worse and worse. Now I wear contacts and my vision barely changes every year. I have slight astigmitism in one eye though so with contacts it is not completely clear but its good enough. Wish I could go lasik but cant afford it now and will wait a bit for it to really be perfected. Besides, arent your eyes supposed to fall out after 20 years if you used lasik? (Simpsons I think
)
