Acura Integra Temp Gauge Broken

I noticed this weekend that the temp gauge in my wife's '95 Acura Integra isn't working. Is it really necessary to replace it? As long as I check the coolant level every couple of months I think it'll be ok. What do you think?

I would get it fixed, most likely it is just a sensor.

Even if you check the coolant and make sure it is full, you can still overheat (fan doesn't turn on, bad thermostat, clogged radiator, etc)

I agree with Travis, alot of computer process, especially the operation of the fan is controled by that coolant temperature sensor.

You wanna be checking parts 13, or 14 (which is more likely to be this number since it's on the thermostate housing), whichever one is the temp sensor sending unit, and if the specific resistances are within spec when the vehicle is in operating temperature (after it has warmed up), then your gauge could be the issue, but more than likely it's the temp sensor.

The single pin connector located on the head, under the distributor controls the temp gauge (13). The round connector next to the distributor is the ECU signal (15), and the round sensor on the t-stat housing controls the fan.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully the stealer will think I know enough, from what info you've provided, not to try to convince me to replace the thermostat when quite possibly it's just the sensor.
