4wd go-kart!

how badass would it be to build a 4wd go-kart?

i dunno. the idea just kinda hit me. i might take action on it.

then i can romp the crap out of it and make it fly and get stuck all i want.

it would have to be heavier than a normal go-kart if i want to get across any 4x4 terrain.

bigger tires too.

i probably won't be taking on the same kind of obstacles as a fullsize modified 4 wheel drive rig. the small obstacles in a full size 4x4 that you don't even think about might become a challenge for a little go kart.

this idea just sort of came out of nowhere. i was in pep boys "harassing" the service writer there about alignment inspections and cupping tires because i had nothing better to do. that's when i saw the itty-bitty little 2wd offroad go karts they have for sale there and i started looking at them and it just hit me. it would be soo badass to have a bigger 4wd version of one of those puppies.

i'm not talking about a dune buggy either. not even that big. i'm talking about a GO-KART!

but i don't know. this is just a random idea out of nowhere.

first i would just want to build something... that would get me up my street and back. maybe use a lawn mower engine, a bicycle chain, some plywood to sit on, some bicycle handbrakes, push-pull steering, and maybe 4 small bicycles wheels? haha! the possibilities are endless!

i mean when the wright brother's invented the airplane, their first flight only lasted 12 seconds. so why can't the first trip on my go-kart get me up my street?

then maybe if i had enough fun getting a go-kart to run up my street and back, i can build one that will take me through a giant mudhole and back out again without getting stuck? yee haww! and the best part about that is....... it's not my daily driver so i can beat the crap out of it and all that stuff!

okay dudes. i wrote enough. all this just spawned out of nowhere, but let me know what you think!

ps. i apologize in advance if i posted this thread in the wrong forum. i wasn't exactly sure where to post a thread regarding a 4 wheel drive go-kart. haha! i also apologize in advance if this thread seems way out of the ordinary. a 4 wheel drive go-kart might very well just be useless... but it's okay to come up with new ideas out of nowhere? okay sorry in advance

wow, both the rhino and that other rig are insane.

but still... i'm not even talking that big. i'm just talking about a little something i could build and take out on some of the little backyard trails we have around here.

i mean... i probably won't even use 31 inch tires, i'm probably going to opt for something a little smaller. this will be a true mini. it won't hack the kind of obtacles that rhino or even a mild 4x4 rig could hack. it's just to have a little fun around town with. maybe if i have a good experience after building it, i can try and build something a little bigger to take on real trails and real obstacles.

one thing my little "go-kart" will be..... is fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

when i say "go-kart"... i mean like GO KART!!!!

i've never built anything like this before, so i don't want to get ahead of myself. i'm doing it just for fun and for the learning experience behind it. i don't have any real plans yet, it's just all talk as of now. i don't even have the space to start building it yet. i just thought i'd post a thread here and see what all you yotatechers think.

mini 4x4? weeee!

Man, that would be awesome. I know a while back I found a place that makes mini monster trucks. They were running a small honda engine that you can get from like Northern Tool, and they had like at least 33" tires. That would be cool.

This is a good idea, maybe something might actually come out of it.

i'm thinking maybe take the blood and guts out of a 4x4 quad? then i have some welder friends who could help me fab a frame together. maybe even use some atv tires?

it's basically going to be an atv/quad except wider and with bucket seats.

this idea might seem pointless to some of you, but hey..... it's be fun to haul ass around in the local trails around town! it's just like backyard 4 wheeling! you can wheel in all the local places you can't take your fullsize rig into!

four wheeler magazine used to run a ad in the back for these mini-monster trucks. i think they ran 15,000 and required a 5000 down payment.. 1 seat, 33's or 35's i believe. you could get them with a/c, heater, stereo and could even get them legal for the streets with a package. wish i could remember who made those, i thought they were the coolest things. Like adult Water Stompers, but you drive them instead of just watching them.

I wanted to make one so bad before I got my runner. The worst part about it is, when do you stop growing, 'cause you always want to go bigger.

If your interested, I bought a BAD ASS two piston military engine a long time ago for a 4x4 go kart of my own. It has just been sitting around, collecting dust. It puts out like 20 horses and has great low-end torque.

Those ones made by rhino look sweet. I wonder why they only have a 2.0L in em...there is probably a reason.

Sucks they are $30,000

first off.... 4x4 quads are too easy. come on now. that's like a 4x4 motorcycle. nothing against quads though, as they're rad as ever. i just sort of liked the idea of "scaling things down." sort of like mini 4 wheeling! weeee! something i can have fun with on local trails around town.

getitdone- i haven't really started making much plans yet for this "mini 4x4." i even thought about using a lawn mower engine ahahaha! well anyway, one of these days i'm going to look into it and i'll hit you up. maybe if i'm lucky i can find a kit somewhere. even just a 2wd offroad go-kart would be fun, but i'm not talking about those "yerf dog" pieces of junk at pep boys. i want to build something just for the satisfaction that i built it

Make a 4x4 golf kart, then I'd be impressed.

Would make finding those balls that I always shoot into the bush a lot more fun.

speaking of 4x4 golf carts....

check this out

http://www.biggameproshop.com/4x4lifted-golf-cart.htm

i just randomly came across that while searching for some information on 4x4 go-karts. sounds interesting, but i'm a little skeptical about an electric motor... but then again what do i know?

of course, with this whole project you not only have to "scale down" the mini 4x4, the obstacles are "scaled down" as well. obviously a go-kart or golf-kart is not going to be much of a rockcrawler, but scaling things down can be a great learning experience and an awesome way to improve your driving skills on your fullsize rig. plus... i just want something to play around with in the creek down the street from my house. the creek is 500 yards away, good trails are a road trip away. i'm not doing this to prove anything, just to have a little fun.

then when i'm done... i'm going to make this 4x4 go-kart fly hehehehehehehe

by scaling things down you can do things you wouldn't dare in your fullsize rig.

so who wants to see a flying go-kart?

i think this is a great idea... i want one

well, as i was browsing through the web regarding "mini 4x4s" i came across the yahama rhino..............

AND I FREAKIN WANT ONE!!!!!

http://www.atvillustrated.com/atv_re...ro/cover2b.jpg

check that puppy out.

it's around the same price range as that electric 4x4 golf cart, and this one has way more..... how do i say.......... BAWLLZZZZZZZZZZ! a mini with balls. heck yes.

i wish they made these in kits. would probably save a few bucks, plus i still am looking for the satisfaction of wheeling something that i actually built. i still might throw a little go-kart together...... AFTER i have my rhino!

except the rhino probably won't fly and i still want to see that go-kart fly. weeeeeee!
