I agree, best movie in a long time! My friends and I never said a word during the entire movie. A must see. One of the few I would see a second time in the theater.

Here Here!!
300 Spartans (From Wikipedia) Sparta's reputation as a land-fighting force was unequaled. In 480 BC a small Spartan unit under King Leonidas made a legendary last stand against a massive, invading Persian army at the Battle of Thermopylae. One year later, Sparta assembled at full strength and led a Greek alliance against the Persians at Plataea. There, a decisive Greek victory put an end to the Greco-Persian War along with Persian ambition of expanding into Europe. The movie is about the legendary battle where King Leonidas disobeys the Greek elders, takes 300 Spartan soldiers and does unbelievable damage to the Persians. Definite go see and I don't say that lightly. In fact some friends and I are talking about seeing it again in IMAX. |

I liked the story, but the film itself didn't do much for me. Was kind of lunchbag letdown I thought. I'd like to read the book though.

I found the similitude to our current events and political players to be deliciously rich.

Gates of Fire
Quote:
Here, here! Gates of Fire has to be one of the best books I've ever read. Don't bother with the graphic novel! Whenever I'm out of books to read, I re-read Gates of Fire all the time and it has never disappointed me. For those that have read that book and seen the movie, how close does the movie come to being like the book? Also, would you recommend reading the book over seeing the movie or vice versa?
