2001 sas'd 4runner f/s
Not mine, i think i posted it last time it was forsale too. The truck looks huge but the guy actually sounds pretty reasonable on the price range he is expecting..

That truck is huge.
I like the front axle. You can bet it was not wheeled with stock bumpers, no sliders and no rash. It may not have been wheeled because the multi-mode t-case poses some problems with ABS, 4wd, speedos working, etc.

Please, whatever you do, don't buy it and then try to sell it on E-bay for more than what you paid for it.
That is the most reasonable price I have ever seen for a truck with that kind of work done on it. Yeah, the problems are likely in large volume, but if he paid a place to do all that work, that was probably half the asking price without counting the rest of the truck you are getting. I have to imagine it is a basketcase though.

Tempting, but I'd have to buy a mini-trampoline for my 5' wife.
He never mentions what he did for steering. I also remember it for sale awhile ago - I think he was asking 21k then.

Steering looks like IFS box and standard crossover. He has a Diamond, so it is high-steer.
Got time to wheel on the 21st? Crystal and Moody, snow permitting. For 16k a person could drop off at a shop and have turn key links done with custom axles.

I'm pretty sure I can make it on the 21st.
I was looking for the planning thread, but can't find it now.

i guess when daddy gives you his 4runner, you can make a monster truck out of it and not care to loose your ass when selling it. what i don't get, if it were done right and streetable, is his reasoning for selling it. Quote:

That is what I meant earlier. If he is turning it for 16k, a shop would have at least 30 hours in the swap plus 4-6k in parts. Like I said, at this price, I imagine half the truck being shop cost.
The full time 4wd stuff, yeah just lock the hubs. Except that those angles have to be right on in the front driveline otherwise vibrations on a likely shortish driveline with only a single case, would probably be hellish over 65. Someone buy it so we can see how possessed it is.

I'm missing something...why is it full time 4wd? I thought I read on Pirate that it's the stock transfer case, but that's a part-time system...

01 and 02 are not full time 4wd. We have a transfer case with a locking diff. This means if we put it in 4wd it is like All Wheel Drive, then if we lock the center diff it is like a normal 4WD system. Not really that differant from the 96-2000's.
What IMO is a big diff is that the e-locker was not an option and was replaced with a TRAC system which senses wheel slip and then applies braking to make torque go to the non slipping wheels. It works well for me but some here really hate it. Not as good as a locker but much better than open diffs. The VSC vehicle skid control system is not so hot though. it will spark retard the engine if it senses slipping in the non center diff locked position. This is bad when you want to spin your way out of a muddy or icey spot. If the center dif is locked the VSC is off which is good. It would be really interesting to see how they did that rig and how it actually performs. There are some here on this forum who said " a 01/02 could not be SAS'd". I guess this means they were wrong. |

When you swap late model multi-mode trucks, you lose front ABS signal.
This means the computer freaks out and locks in 4wd. This means the front driveshaft will be powered ALL THE TIME. Funny how people forget that part. Again, neat truck. Definitely has potential. A person could buy it, drop a couple thousand on armor, some t-cases and/or gears, and throw a cage it in and have the most web cool truck ever.
