Replacing interior bulbs with LED

I was wondering if anyone has done this. I found a great site with some really awesome prices but I dont know what BRIGHTNESS to get. What is the brightness that the stock yellow-bulbs are putting out?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is the site:

Well I checked my factory service manual, but it dosen't give the wattage. Have you pulled the bulb? I would think it would be listed somewhere on it.

Keep in mind, you can go brighter with LED's because they give out less heat than a bulb.

Yeah...but how bright are the original bulbs? Someone on toyota-4runner.com stated that he had the 5LED matrix bulbs...nice white light but not as bright. I think I may just go with Polarg or Showoff Krypton bulbs. I have seen great reviews of these on the internet. Plus....you can find them for like $6 a pair for the 194/168 size.

I just bought a handful of LED bulbs from superbrightleds.com. They shipped them really fast.

Unfortunately, I think I screwed up on which ones I ordered. My goal was to replace just one of the map light bulbs with a red LED so I could use it at night without ruining my night vision. When I installed it, though, it didn't end up putting out enough light to do anything. I certainly couldn't read by it. It was just way too dim. The white 4 bulb LED I bought was ok, but not as bright as the regular bulbs - it was a cooler light, though.

Now I'm thinking of removing the overhead garage door remote compartment and trying to install some sort of array of red LED bulbs. Anyone have experience with this? Am I better off just replacing the dome light with a red LED array instead?

Here's a list of the bulbs I tried in the map reader lights. All were pretty dim, particularly because they put light out of the top, to the side (when installed), rather than down.

Product: BA9s-x-x-12V Wide Angle bulb $ 0.98 (each)
Options: 90 Degree Red BA9s-R-x-12V

Product: BA9s-x-x-12V Wide Angle bulb $ 0.98 (each)
Options: 120 Degree Red BA9s-R-x-12V

Product: BA9s-W4 White LED bulb $ 2.98 (each)
Options: 12 Volt AC or DC

Product: BA9s-R4 Red LED bulb $ 1.98 (each)
Options: 12 Volt AC or DC

Product: BA9s-R Red LED bulb $ 0.98 (each)
Options: 12 Volt AC or DC
